Saxon Racing Newsletter
First JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Race in the books for Nevada native. (Special from Saxon Racing)
June 6, 2014
New Palestine, Indiana (June 6, 2014) – We made it through the first race in the JEGS/
CRA All-Stars Series in Columbus, Ohio.  For those who haven't hear about it on
Facebook or in our new "PR release", Nikky did a GREAT JOB!  She started 27th and
finished 18th.  During qualifying the entire field of almost 30 cars was separated by only
0.6 seconds.  A lot of tight, close racing.  Nikky completed the entire 100 laps with only a
large hole in her driver's side door.  She reached her goals of finishing the race and rolling
the car back into the hauler.  A super effort in her very first race in a Late Model race car!

We need to send out a special "thank you" to Nikky's crew at Cozzolino Motorsports for
getting the car and her ready for the first race.  Numerous hours were spent setting up the
car and coaching Nikky in the finer points of racing a Late Model car on a flatter .33 mile
race track.

They include:

Crew Chief - Peter Cozzolino
Car Chief - Bill Vester
Spotter - Todd Deihl
Tire Tech - Gauge Kline ("G")
Pit Support - Bret Guzik

It was quite a learning experience for Sue ("Mom").  She was able to go down into the infield of the track with all the crews, they gather there to assist their driver and car during the race.  Sue learned how to turn around in a circle 100 times (for 100 laps), as she doesn't take her eyes off of Nikky, and managed not to get dizzy and fall over!  The only thing, she just has to remember to "breathe" while she circles around.  Kevin ("Sax") on the other hand is calm and sits up in the main stands with the fans, it allows him to see the entire race and track.

Here is some exciting news, we are pleased to announce our partnership with "GRand Solutions" marketing company.  They are a public relations firm based in Speedway, IN located next to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Gene Cottingham and Ruthie Forbes have been in the industry for many years and work with elite race car drivers in various racing fields, especially Indy Car.  We look forward to working with both of them and our direct PR representative, Marissa Johnson.  Marissa is responsible for the excellent News Release that was sent to everyone after Nikky's first race.  With her help, we look forward to expanding the Saxon Racing Facebook page and developing Nikky's Twitter account.

Nikky has completed her 2nd year of classes in Motorsports Engineering and is maintaining a 3.13 GPA.  She and her classmates are currently completing the finishing touches on their IUPUI FSAE race car.  A FSAE race car is a smaller version of a formula car and close to the size of her Legend race car.  They have made this completely from scratch.  It is a chance for them to take what they have learned in class and apply it directly to an actual race car.  The car will be competing in the National Collegiate competition in Lincoln, Nebraska from the 17-22nd June.  They are under the direction of Pete Hylton, Director of the Motorsports Engineering Program at IUPUI.  Good luck to everyone.

Nikky's next race will be over the "4th of July" weekend at Angola Motorsport Speedway (about 30 miles north of Fort Wayne, IN).  We will practice a couple times this month to get her familiar with the track.  It is a .375 mile track and similar to the track that she raced in Las Vegas for many years.  We are looking forward to lowering her times and achieving a better qualifying position for the race.

A quick shout out to all the Dad's, have a "Happy Father's Day" on the 14th!
