Winchester, Indiana (September 2, 2013) – The prestigious World Stock Car Festival held
at the legendary 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Winchester Speedway in
Winchester, Indiana over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend as the Stealth Trailers CRA
Street Stocks Series Powered by JEGS closed out the weekend of racing on Monday,
September 2nd with the running of the Winchester 40.
Veteran, Brian Ross flew under the double Checkered Flags first to seemingly pick up the
victory, however, he was DQ'ed in post-race tech, giving the win to Jason Thompson, who,
as it turns out, swept the entire weekend in the division after the Shirley, Indiana scoring
the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Award the day before in his #28 Insulators18.org /
Chevrolet. It was his first appearance of the season in the series as one of the all-time
leaders in most statistical categories in tour history added to his totals.
"Finishing behind someone like Brian Ross feels like a win to us. I feel bad for that team,
but a win is a win and we'll definitely take it," Thompson, who would collect his second
consecutive World Stock Car Festival Title. "We had a good car all weekend long and
man it felt good to get back out onto these high-banks. This track has so much history
and to win here once is an accomplishment in itself." He added. Thompson would also
collect the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award for his daring three-wide pass early
in the race from his 10th starting spot.
Calvin Parham inherited a second place showing in his #33 Stanley Show Pigs / Chevrolet
as the Knightstown, Indiana driver jumped from fourth to second place in the season long points chase three points paying events to go for the series while Defending Series Champion, Jimmy Kirby finished third after leading the first 10 laps in his #11 USA Tires / Chevrolet before the Indianapolis, Indiana driver was passed by Ross.
Two-Time CRA Street Stocks Series Feature Winner in 2013, Jason Atkinson, who is also a Three-Time Winner this season in the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series, scored a fourth place finish in his #73 Accelerator Racecars / Chevrolet as the New Castle, Indiana driver rebounded from a blown motor in the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series race earlier in the day. Current Points Leader, Dustin Burge finished off the top five in his #63 Stoneage Barber Manufacturing / Chevrolet and maintains his lead in the chase for the 2013 Series title.
2012 Rookie of the Year, Tyler Marsh finished in the sixth position over veteran Jim Crabtree Jr., who was shown in the seventh spot. 2008 CRA Street Stocks Series Champion, Bret Miles Jr., collected the Hedman Hedders Hussler Award for his 18th to eighth place run while Josh Myers scored a ninth place finish ahead of Jon Conklin who finished off the top 10.
Jon Conklin was also 12th and won the T.C.I. Automotive Hard-Charger Award after starting 23rd. A.J. Ridner was the first driver officially out of the event and would pick up the Hinchman Racing Uniforms Hard-Luck Award while Thompson's weekend started out with his first Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Award of the season as he turned in an 18.699 which measures out to 96.292mph.
The fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval of Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana will host the Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks Series Powered by JEGS for the fifth and final time of the 2013 racing season at the home track for the series on Saturday, September 14th. The Top Speed Fabrication CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Powered by JEGS will share the spotlight for the evening as both tours will take part in the Anderson Twin 50s.
