Anderson, Indiana (September 14, 2013) – Once Jeff Marcum got the lead in the Top Speed Fabricaion CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Powered by JEGS feature he pulled away to his second win of the year Saturday at Anderson Speedway and first career triumph in the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series.

K.C. Spillers led the first 15 laps of the 50 lap feature on Hoosier Park Racing & Casino Night at the Races. But on a restart on lap 16 Marcum used the high line to get past Spillers for the lead. Marcum, a McGunegill Engine Performance Late Model regular at Anderson Speedway, brought home the victory for the local drivers over the visiting CRA invaders.

With Spillers battling with fast qualifier J.J. Haley, Chris Hacker, Danny Trent and Mark Lambert for the second spot, Marcum was able to open a comfortable lead.
Spillers held on for the second spot followed by Haley, Lambert and Hacker. It was Marcum’s first feature win with the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and second win in three races for the McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models.

For Spillers it was the fifth time he has finished second in races at Anderson Speedway in 2013. “It’s tough to get around on the outside on the restart,” Marcum said of his winning move. “Once we got out front in the clean air I could pull away.”

The 50-lap feature was slowed only twice by caution flags, both times for single car incidents. Fred Hopkins spun in turn two on lap 14 and Jason Atkinson made contact with the outside retaining wall in turn three only two laps later.

Robert Amos Jr. led the entire distance to record the first heat win with Spillers coming home in the second spot. Nick Lay passed Atkinson on the sixth lap entering turn three to claim the third position. A lap later Hacker got inside of Atkinson entering turn two to finish fourth, with Atkinson coming home in fifth.

The second heat win went to Rob Allman, who also led the entire race, chased by Hopkins, Lambert, Joe Woodring and Mark Soots.

The third heat win went to Jeff Albright who led from start to finish. Flynn finished second with Larry Lathan, Josh Lank and Tim McKaughlin completing the top five.
