DeWitt, Michigan (September 8, 2014) – Turns out all that Chad Finley needed to turn
around his 2014 racing season was a return visit to his home track on September 6th.
The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance was at the 3/8s
(0.375) mile high-banked paved oval of Owosso Speedway, located just 20 minutes from
the Chad Finley Racing Team shop in Ovid, Michigan for the running of the Big 'O'
Classic 100 Presented by JEGS.com. In the tracks weekly Pro Late Model division, the
DeWitt, Michigan driver did score a Feature Win. But a triumph on the national level is
what still eluded him so far in 2014.
That all changed with one perfect night for the 22-year-old. After turning in the fastest lap
overall of Practice, he then broke the JEGS/CRA Track Record in Qualifying by 0.203
seconds. Then after starting ninth, Finley's #42 AutoParts2020.com / Air Lift Company /
Chevrolet worked his way towards the front after the inversion draw of a nine. After a battle
with Grant Quinlan that saw the lead change hands three times, Finley took the lead for
good on lap 26 and went on to score his first touring series victory of the season.
"Man what a dominant car we had Saturday. We never put tires on in practice and set
fast time by two tenths. That's a testament to how hard we have been working to make
our cars faster." Finley remarked after the race surrounded by family and friends. "We
haven't got to race much this year with the template cars, but when we have we haven't finished outside the top five. Our program just keeps getting better. It meant a lot to win the race at home in the fashion we did. Once we got out front we were really able to just cruise around the top of the track and bring home the win.
His fourth career JEGS/CRA win has him locked into third all-time in career victories, just one triumph behind Chase Elliott and Trent Snyder, who are tied for second with five wins apiece. 2012 series champion, Daniel Hemric is the all-time wins leader with eight. Also by winning the race, he took over sole possession of the all-time career lead in two JEGS/CRA statistical categories; He now leads in career top five finishes with 15 and in career laps led with 439 orbits as the leader of a JEGS/CRA event. Finley passed Hemric in both categories.
Up next for Finley and crew will be the debut in their new Outlaw Super Late Model in a joint partnership with Great Lakes Helicopter Racing. He'll make his first start for the GLH team at the 26th Running of the Glass City 200 on Saturday, September 20th at Toledo Speedway (OH) as Finley will race in the renumbered #42 for GLH Car Owners, John & Meloney Lojko.
"Really looking forward to getting back in an Outlaw car for the Great Lakes Helicopter team. It means a lot to have someone else ask me to drive their cars." He continued. "It's a great team with top notch equipment and I'm excited about our chances. I'm thankful for the opportunity that John and Meloney Lojko have given me and I hope we get to capitalize on these opportunities. We're not done yet. We got the playoffs so to speak coming up this fall with some big races and we really want to go to victory lane a few more times." Finley ended.
After the Glass City 200, the final weekend of September will be a busy one for Finley and crew. After racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race, the Drive Sober 150 at the 'Monster Mile'; Dover International Speedway (DE) on Friday, September 26th, the team will make the all night trek to Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) with both the ARCA/CRA Super Series car and the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour entry for the 2014 CRA Fall Brawl on Saturday-Sunday, September 27-28th.
For the rest of the 2014 racing season, Finley will run in mainly high-profile Super Late Model races throughout the country primarily in the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS. He'll also race in events within the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, ARCA Midwest Tour and the Southern Super Series. On some off weekends, Finley will also compete in an Outlaw Bodied Super Late Model in the Great Lakes Helicopter Main Event Series and has added some shows on dirt in his new UMP DIRTcar Late Model at select tracks around his home state of Michigan.
