Harrison, Michigan (September 5, 2014) – It's been a rare treat for 15-year-old Grant
Quinlan to go to a track he's been too before. His rookie season in the JEGS/CRA All-
Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance has seen the Harrison, Michigan teenager
experience a wide array of new tracks throughout the schedule. The next race is
scheduled for a track he's actually raced on before; the fast 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked
paved oval of Owosso Speedway, located just an hour south of home in Ovid, Michigan.
The Big 'O' Classic 100 Presented by JEGS.com is set for Saturday, September 6th and
Quinlan, the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year points leader is looking to gain
back some crucial points lost in the last event. The famed high-banks of Winchester
Speedway was the site for the last race over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend on August
31st. A race that resulted in a rare 'DNF' for the Great Lakes State teenager.
"Things were looking up for us at Winchester. We had good speed all day Saturday in
practice. Huge thanks to the entire crew for that. We were happy with Qualifying and
starting fifth," Quinlan explained. "For some reason in the race the track had changed
dramatically and we found ourselves really loose. I was trying a couple of different lines to
try and find some more speed. Tried to roll into one and two a little bit harder and made
contact with the wall and cut a tire down. It blew the second time around and I hit the wall
again." He stated.
"I feel bad to let my team down," The somber driver continued. "We're going to try to redeem ourselves at Owosso. I've ran there before in a Legends car, but this will be my first time there in a Late Model. Looking for a solid run there after a bad Winchester weekend to get ourselves back in the overall points chase. Still four races to go and we still have a shot at the overall title, so we're going to go out and see what we can do." He ended.
Heading into Owosso, Quinlan leads the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie title chase by just 19 points over fellow freshman Dalton Armstrong. He's also 22 points back of second place overall, Josh Nelms and another 42 points further away from points leader, Dan Leeck. Quinlan has one win so far which came at Salem Speedway (IN) on June 21st to go with three top fives and four top 10 finishes. He also has seven finishes of at least a top 15 showing in nine points race so far in 2014. He also has one Fast Qualifier Award, which occurred at Angola Motorsport Speedway (IN) on July 5th.
For the rest of the 2014 racing season, Quinlan's #28 Downey Racing / Chevrolet will have sponsorship decals and support from Quinlan Incorporated as well as International Tool and Mold, Five Star Racecar Bodies, McGunegill Engine Performance and M.P.H. Promotions.
