Harrison, Michigan (September 18, 2014) – With just three races remaining in the chase
for the 2014 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title, 15-year-old Grant Quinlan
knows he's in the proverbial driver's seat. The Harrison, Michigan driver, who is also third
overall in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance points
standings, is 36 points ahead of fellow freshman, Dalton Armstrong, just 15 behind Josh
Nelms for second overall and 60 back of current points leader, Dan Leeck.
The next race on the schedule will mark the first time in his brief career that the Great
Lakes State teenager will get to race on a track he's been too before in a Late Model; the
3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval of Springport Motor Speedway (MI) on Saturday,
September 20th. The Michigan Cup 100 Presented by JEGS.com. His first race ever in a
Late Model also occurred at the track located north of Jackson and south of Lansing in
Springport, Michigan back on May 4th in the 2014 season opener for points in JEGS/CRA,
the Cabin Fever 100 Presented by JEGS.com where he finished 14th.
"I can't wait to get back to Springport with the team. We actually have some seat time
there, so hopefully we won't have to spend practice learning the track, but instead getting
faster," Quinlan stated as he and his crew led by Car Owner, Brent Downey and Crew
Chief, Derrick Griffin get ready for the final trip of the season to Michigan. "We learned a lot in the spring race with it being the first time in the car. Hopefully we'll be much better this time." He added.
Quinlan's last race was at the fast 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked paved oval of Owosso Speedway, located northeast of Lansing in Ovid, Michigan for the Big 'O' Classic 100 Presented by JEGS.com on September 6th. After timing in eighth quick and starting the race from the outside of the front row, he battled tooth and nail with eventual winner, Chad Finley, leading a total of 24 laps, before finishing second and claiming his fifth Rookie of the Race Award of the season.
"Congratulations to Chad Finley, Jeff Finley, and there crew. That was a fun race. We were so close," Continued the Legends car graduate. "The car was good, but we got a little tight on the long runs. We've got three races left and we want the rookie title. We have an outside chance at the overall title, but there's a lot that has to happen for us to have a chance at that. We'll keep digging and see what happens." He ended.
So far in 2014, Quinlan has one win which came at Salem Speedway (IN) on June 21st to go with four top five finishes and five top 10 finishes. He also has eight finishes of at least a top 15 showing in 10 points race so far in 2014. He also has one Fast Qualifier Award, which occurred at Angola Motorsport Speedway (IN) on July 5th. Both the win and the fast qualifier award in his rookie season ties for the most in JEGS/CRA's four-year history.
