Harrison, Michigan (August 5, 2014) – It's been a hectic 2014 racing season for 15-year-
old Grant Quinlan. Not only is he one of two Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year
title contenders to win a race in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet
Performance, he's also in contention for the overall championship as well. Going into the
next race; the Auto City 100 Presented by JEGS.com on Saturday, August 9th at Auto
City Speedway (MI), the Harrison, Michigan teenager is 43 points out of the lead. Not
impossible to make up with six points races remaining.
"We're looking forward to going to Auto City. We raced Legends there on the small track
before, so I at least know what the bigger track looks like," Stated the teenage driver
when talking about the bigger 0.393 mile semi-banked, egg-shaped paved oval. "The guys
are really working hard to prepare the car for this one. We'll certainly do our best and
hope everything turns out well. Definitely want to maintain the rookie point's lead and even
give ourselves a chance at the overall title." He added.
In the last two JEGS/CRA races at Berlin Raceway (MI) on July 18th and at Anderson
Speedway (IN) on July 26th, finishes of seventh and second respectively has put Quinlan
solidly on top in the freshman title chase. Dalton Armstrong is the closest other rookie as
the two have pulled away from the rest of the rookie class. In addition, Quinlan also made
his ARCA/CRA Super Series debut at Berlin on July 19th in the Battle at Berlin 251 where he came away with an impressive eighth place finish.
"All the guys back at Downey Racing; Jim, Derrick, Brent, Jeff and Dan had prepared me a great car just like always, took me a while to get a feel for the track being because it was my first time there and because of how unique it was." He explained when reflecting back on Berlin. "It was a good point's day in the JEGS/CRA race and I was very proud of my team on Saturday for the 251 it was my first live pit stop and my team performed great. All and all a great weekend." He added.
"At Anderson, we were in the top five in practice, but had a poor qualifying effort. We were able to race our way up to third by lap 20. Had an extremely tough time to cleanly pass the 0 car." Quinlan continued. "With 25 to go we finally got by him and got the toe knocked out of our car on the last restart, couldn't put up much of a fight with the 10 car after that." He ended.
Quinlan is in the midst of the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title chase in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. There's also the possibility of select appearances in the ARCA/CRA Super Series while he'll also run some Michigan Legends Series events and even a few races in the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer's Cup Series when the schedule allows.
As for the remainder of the 2014 racing season, Quinlan's #28 Downey Racing / Chevrolet will have sponsorship decals and support from Quinlan Incorporated as well as International Tool and Mold, Five Star Racecar Bodies, McGunegill Engine Performance and M.P.H. Promotions.
