Salem, Indiana (September 3, 2014) – The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by
Chevrolet Performance will be back in action this Saturday night in Michigan for the Big
O Classic 100 Presented by JEGS.com at Owosso Speedway located in Ovid, Michigan.
Saturday’s race at the 3/8’s mile progressively banked oval will be the 10th event in the
14 race 2014 schedule for the Crate Motor Series sanctioned by Champion Racing
Association Powered by JEGS. Saturday’s event will be the third event at Owosso
Speedway, 2011 series Champion Erik Jones won the series event there in 2011, while
Brian Campbell won in 2012. Last years scheduled event was canceled because of
weather. The series has had nine different winners in the nine points events held so far
this season.
Topping the list of entries for Saturday is current series point’s leader Dan Leeck, from Birch Run, Michigan, located just up the road from Owosso Speedway. Leeck comes in to Saturday night’s event with a 42 point lead over Josh Nelms, who is also entered. Leeck is looking to pick up his first series win along with building on his Championship points lead on Saturday. Howie Lettow Rookie of the Year Presented by Howe Racing Rookie Grant Quinlan, a series winner at Salem Speedway in June, is in third place in series points, 22 points behind Nelms. Fellow rookie Dalton Armstrong is in fourth place, he is 21 points behind Quinlan. Both rookies are entered for Saturday’s event along with fifth place in points Hunter Baize, a winner at Columbus Motor Speedway earlier in the season.
Other series drivers entered include Jaxson Jacobs, Marc Jacobs, Dominique Van Wieringen, Jordan Miller, Jerry Andrews, Nikky Saxon and fellow Howie Lettow Rookie of the Year Presented by Howe Racing rookies Tristan Van Wieringen, Cole Rouse and Amber Slagle.
There will be plenty of competition for the series regulars at Owosso Speedway on Saturday night including DeWitt, Michigan’s Chad Finley, a three time series winner who is racing in selected series events in 2014. Part-time series competitor Eric Lee of Macomb, Michigan, a winner at the series Auto City Speedway event on August 9th, is also entered. Lakeland, Florida native Steve Dorer is also entered, he picked up his first series win at the series event on July 26th at Anderson Speedway.
Lots of other local talent, who have made selected series starts in 2014, will also be battling for the win Saturday night including Birch Run’s Robbie Johnson, Clio’s Kyle Hayden and Trevor Berry, and Beaverton’s Travis Eddy, son of former ASA Tour Series driver Mike Eddy. Owosso’s own Jason Felver, son of famed Michigan racer Tim Felver, will make his series debut driving for car owner Larry Varney. Also Modified standout, Port Huron's, Joe Morisette Jr., has also filed an entry.
Coopersville, Michigan modified racer Ben Welch looks to make his second series start on Saturday night, as will Carpentersville, Illinois racer Kevin Zielezinski and Veteran Ft. Wayne, Indiana racer Tommy Cook, who was crowned 2014 Baer Field Speedway Late Model Champion last Saturday night..
Pit gates will open on Saturday at 12noon. Practice will begin for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour at 2:30pm with qualifying for the series starting at 6:15pm. The race program will begin at 7pm and will include an on track Autograph Session and the Big O Classic 100 Presented by JEGS.com for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. The Owosso Speedway Sportsman and Pure Stocks will also be in action with heat races and features plus a 20 lap Power Puff Feature. More event information can be found at www.owossospeedway.com.
