DeWitt, Michigan (June 19, 2014) – The 2014 racing season continues for Howie Lettow
Memorial Rookie of the Year title contender, Grant Quinlan. The 15-year-old is running the
full season in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance and in
three starts so far, all of which account for his three career appearances in a full bodied
stock car, Quinlan has managed a high finish of 11th. That came in the Mercy Masters of
the Pros 144 at Lebanon I-44 Speedway (MO) back on May 17th.
In his last race, the Agroscapes 100 Presented by SizzleMarine.com on May 24th, the
Harrison, Michigan teenager qualified and finished 21st. The 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-banked,
circular shaped paved oval of Columbus Motor Speedway (OH) hosted. Not one to dwell on
previous starts, Quinlan is primed and focused on his next race, which will be the biggest
track he has seen in his brief career; the historic 0.555 mile high-banked paved oval of
Salem Speedway, located north of the Indiana / Kentucky state line in Salem, Indiana on
Saturday, June 21st.
"We just had some bad luck at Columbus. The car was really fast and we were coming
up through the field a couple times when we dropped a cylinder." Explained the young
teenager. "The car has had good speed, but we just need some luck to come our way for
sure. Hopefully we can get things turned around down at Salem. It's a big fast race track."
He added.
Quinlan is currently fifth in the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year points and 11th overall in the standings, just eight markers outside of the overall top 10. The John Jones Auto Group 100 Presented by Mountaineer Firewood & JEGS.com will be the toughest test yet for the Legends car graduate, but Quinlan feels he's up to the challenge in Southern Indiana.
"We are looking forward to Salem. The track has a lot of history to it. We are going to switch things up a bit and put a CFR motor in Brent Downey’s Port City car for this race." Quinlan added. " Chad (Finley) has a wedding commitment so Brent will call the shots and prepare the car for us. Brent has been helping Chad and I with all of the racing we do out of CFR this year. He has been a big asset and he's raced at Salem before a few times in the past. So I'm confident we will have a good piece." He ended.
Grant is making a run at the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour in 2014. There's also the possibility of select appearances in the ARCA/CRA Super Series while he'll also run some Michigan Legends Series events and even a few races in the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer's Cup Series when the schedule allows.
As a 14-year-old, Quinlan swept the entire year in the Michigan Legends Series from the third race of the 2013 racing season on. He won eight Features in a row to close out the year and earned the most points in the series for the season, based primarily at Spartan Speedway in Mason, Michigan. Yet he did not win the series championship, even with the most points earned in the series. Quinlan is also a three-time World Karting Association (WKA) National Champion.
For the remainder of the 2014 racing season, Quinlan's #28 Chad Finley Racing / Chevrolet will have sponsorship decals and support from Quinlan Incorporated as well as International Tool and Mold, Five Star Racecar Bodies, McGunegill Engine Performance and M.P.H. Promotions.
