DeWitt, Michigan (May 7, 2014) – The main focus and goal for 15-year-old Grant Quinlan
in his JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance was to get
comfortable behind the wheel of a Late Model. Of course making the show would be an
accomplishment for the Legends car graduate. Especially with a stellar 32-car field on the
grounds in Springport, Michigan.
Quinlan has teamed up with Chad Finley Racing and the driver originally from Maidstone,
Ontario who now calls Harrison, Michigan home made his JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour debut
in the Cabin Fever 100 Presented by JEGS.com at Springport Motor Speedway on May
4th. After using a 2013 JEGS/CRA Owners Points Provisional through CFR's 2013 totals,
Quinlan would start the 100-lap main, the longest of his career, 26th in the 26-car field
and by the end of the race, he would bring home a 14th place showing.
“This was a huge step for me. These cars are so different from anything I have ever driven
before. You really need to be getting after it every second." Explained Quinlan. "It was a
lot of fun and I feel like I learned a ton. We got all the way up to eighth there and we were
being very cautious just to click off laps as the car was really good. With 20 to go we just
got caught up in some one else’s mess when the two cars got together in front of me. I
went low and did my best but just run out of room there. Shame we had a good run
going." He added.
A change of plans for Quinlan for the remainder of the 2014 racing season as the Great Lakes State teenager will now make a run at the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. There's also the possibility of select appearances in the ARCA/CRA Super Series while he'll also run some Michigan Legends Series events and even a few races in the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer's Cup Series when the schedule allows.
The next event for Quinlan will be the long trip west over to the immaculate 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked paved oval of Lebanon I-44 Speedway. The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series sanctioned facility is located southwest of St. Louis in Lebanon, Missouri and will host the 2nd Annual Mercy Masters of the Pros 144 Presented by JEGs.com on Saturday, May 17th with a practice day slated for the day before on Friday, May 16th.
“Looking forward to getting back behind the wheel again out there. Chad as well as all the guys at CFR really helped me with my learning curve at Springport and will do the same out there." Continued Quinlan. "Chad has a lot of knowledge and I can lean on him for info so it is very cool to be in this situation that’s for sure. Hopefully we can keep our nose clean and complete every lap and have a good day." He ended.
As a 14-year-old, Quinlan swept the entire year in the Michigan Legends Series from the third race of the 2013 racing season on. He won eight Features in a row to close out the year and earned the most points in the series for the season, based primarily at Spartan Speedway in Mason, Michigan. Yet he did not win the series championship, even with the most points earned in the series. Quinlan stamped an exclamation point on his 2013 campaign by winning on opening night 2014 at Spartan on April 25th. He is also a three-time World Karting Association (WKA) National Champion.
For the 2nd Annual Mercy Masters of the Pros 144 Presented by JEGS.com as well as for the remainder of the 2014 racing season, Quinlan's #28 Chad Finley Racing / Chevrolet will have sponsorship decals and support from Quinlan Incorporated as well as International Tool and Mold, Five Star Racecar Bodies, McGunegill Engine Performance and M.P.H. Promotions.
