DeWitt, Michigan (April 30, 2014) – There's nothing more that 15-year-old Grant Quinlan
can do in a Legends car that hasn't already been done. The Harrison, Michigan teenager
swept the entire season in the Michigan Legends Series from the third race of the 2013
racing season on. Winning eight Features in a row to close out the year and earning the
most points during the year for the series, based primarily at Spartan Speedway in
Mason, Michigan.
Yet despite not winning the series championship, even with the most points earned in the
series, Quinlan, a three-time World Karting Association (WKA) National Champion is
looking ahead to his future in the world of motorsports. The Great Lakes State teenager
will take the next step up the racing ladder on Sunday, May 4th as he makes his JEGS/
CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance debut in the Cabin Fever 100
Presented by JEGS.com at Springport Motor Speedway, located north of Jackson and
south of Lansing in Springport, Michigan driving for Chad Finley Racing.
"My Dad (Todd Quinlan) and I got to meet Jeff Finley in the Go-Kart ranks a few years
back. He always has had the passion to do all he could to win." Quinlan explained. "He
has a solid background in racing as well. I think this will be a great fit for us as we carry that same passion. We went to Toledo and watched Chad race and they had a good solid run. They have good race cars and people at CFR and that means a lot to us. We really need to thank Jeff and Chad Finley for giving us this opportunity." He added.
For the 2014 racing season, plans call for Quinlan to run in a select number of races within the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. Depending on how his full-bodied stock car debut in Springport, Michigan goes, he may decide to chase after the 2014 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the series. There's also the possibility of select appearances in the ARCA/CRA Super Series while he'll also run some Michigan Legends Series events and even a few races in the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer's Cup Series when the schedule allows.
"We are just going to see how this race goes and take it from there. We want to move up in our racing adventures and this is a step in that direction." He continued as he and the Chad Finley Racing Team continues preparations for his full-sized stock car racing debut. "I really want to thank my Dad for this opportunity as he has been with me every step of the way and I couldn’t do any of this without him."
Quinlan, who continued his winning ways in a Legends car by scoring the opening night triumph at the tight 1/4 (0.250) mile slightly banked paved oval of Spartan Speedway (MI) last Friday, April 25th, will be behind the wheel of the #28 Quinlan Incorporated / Ford which will come out of the Chad Finley Racing stables. Finley, the Springport JEGS/CRA Fall event winner, will be turning in his helmet and steering wheel for a headset and a seat on top of the pit box as Quinlan's Crew Chief
"I'm really excited to work with Grant this weekend at Springport. He's a young kid with a lot of talent and a bright future." Added Finley. "This is a cool opportunity for the CFR team and I to be a part of. It's going to be a little different just calling the shots and setting the car up for Grant instead of me driving. Hopefully with winning the race last year we come in with a good set up for Grant to get used to the car and track and can have a good solid weekend." Finley ended.
Quinlan has been racing since he was six years old starting in Go-Karts at the local level. Halfway into his first season he began competing regionally. At nine years old he raced in the Florida Winter Tour against international competitors and in 2008 won the Florida Winter Tour (FWT) Micro Max Championship. He continued to race the FWT until the end of the 2010 season when MRP Motorsports / Birel America brought him in to compete in the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer's Cup Series.
From the 2011-2013, he scored 26 National victories and several to five finishes. During the 2011 season he won the Triple Crown Award for winning three out of the four championships in one season at a national level. He continued to race the WKA along side of the Legends cars until the 2013 season. He also moved up to Legends cars in the end of the 2011 season and raced for Advanced Technology Motorsport with Doug Stevens.
He finished fifth in the 2011 U.S Legends Cars Asphalt Nationals at The Bullring in Las Vegas in the Young Lions Division while in 2012 he competed in the Winter Nationals in Auburndale, Florida and placed second in the Young Lions class. In 2013 he raced against many of the best legends car drivers in the country in the Pro class. He finished fifth in the 2013 U.S Legends Asphalt Nationals at Lake Erie Speedway in Northeast, Pennsylvania and finished fifth in Pro. I also competed in the 2013 Winter Nationals in back in Auburndale, Florida and finished third overall in the pro division.
