Noblesville, Indiana (March 31, 2014) – With over a month before the official start of his
2014 season, 14-year-old Chris Hacker, the 2013 Rookie of the Year in the Vore's
Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Powered by JEGS and his Chris Hacker
Motorsports Team with Scott Neal Racing, decided to take a break from their primary
focus on the new season; the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet
Performance, dust off the CRA Late Model Sportsman car sitting in the garage and go
racing. For Hacker, it was a wise decision which resulted in a visit to victory lane.
The 2014 season opener for the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series, the Anderson 75
was conducted at the fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval of Anderson
Speedway, located just 20 miles east of their Noblesville, Indiana race shop on a special
Sunday afternoon, March 30th. The race was ran a day later than originally scheduled
due to a poor weather forecast for the previous day. For Hacker and crew, it was well
worth the wait and well worth taking the car out of the back corner of the race shop.
After qualifying fourth fastest, the inversion draw was a five which placed Hacker, the
youngest winner in CRA history when he scored his first career CRA win in the CRA Late
Model Sportsman Series portion of the Redbud 300 Weekend back on July 19, 2013 on the outside of the front row for the 75-lap main. Hacker would drag race to the first corner with pole-sitter, Eric McGlothlen. Hacker would edge ahead going down the backstretch and would eventually clear him to take the early lead.
At one point during a lengthy green flag run, 52 laps during the middle stages of the race, Hacker had built up over a half a track advantage over the rest of the field. On what would be the final restart with six laps to go, Hacker again jumped out to the lead and was able to get far enough to walk away with his second career victory in the series.
"It was a fun race, but I got a little nervous on the last caution. Had to stay focused with only six laps to go." Stated the Noblesville, Indiana teenager. "It was very exciting to lead all 75 laps though. With a month before the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour opener in Springport, we're going to go ahead and run the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series race at Lucas Oil Raceway too. There's no such thing as too much seat time." Hacker smiled.
The UAW Motorsports 5th Annual March of Dimes Cabin Fever Championships is set for Sunday, April 6th at the immaculate 0.686 mile semi-banked paved oval of Lucas Oil Raceway, located west of Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana as the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series will headline the weekend with the running of the Lucas Oil 40. There will also be a practice day on Saturday, April 5th. Hacker will be looking to make it two for two to start the year.
After the Cabin Fever Championships, Hacker and crew will then shift focus to their JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance season as the Hoosier State teen will make a run at the 2014 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title starting on Sunday, May 4th at the 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval of Springport Motor Speedway (MI) in the running of the Cabin Fever 100 Presented by JEGS.com.
"I really have to thank Scott Neal, Gordon Guffey, all of the sponsors that make this race program work and of course all of the fans." He appreciatively added. "We're going to make the big leap into the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour and see how we stack up. I can't wait to get to Springport next month." After the race in Anderson, Hacker gave his race winning trophy to a 5-year-old little boy who was celebrating his birthday at the track. He came down from the grandstands to pose for pictures with the race winner and after the picture taking was complete, the 14-year-old gave the boy his trophy as a birthday present.
Hacker started his racing career at eight years old in Quarter Midgets and finished second in the State of Indiana in the Junior Novice division. A year later in 2009 he moved up to the INEX Bandoleros division and finished third in the State of Indiana as well as third in the Indianapolis Speedrome points standings during his rookie year in the more advanced division.
In 2010 he won the Indiana State Championship as well as the recipient of the Driver Dedication Award that same season. He was also second in Indianapolis Speedrome Points and second in the F.A.S.T. Midwest Points. The 2011 racing season, his third year and final year of INEX Bandoleros competition, would see Hacker score his second straight Indiana State Championship as well as the Indianapolis Speedrome Track title. He scored another second place finish in the F.A.S.T. Midwest Points. He also recorded an 11th place finish in the final National Points Standings.
The 2012 racing season saw Hacker make another move up the racing ladder as he competed in a Legends car and took to the scaled-down machines quickly. At just 12 years old he finished second in the Indiana State Points while winning the Indianapolis Speedrome Track Championship in the Young Lions Division. He also finished second in Anderson Speedway track points, third in Indianapolis Speedrome Legends Overall points and fourth in the F.A.S.T. Midwest Points chase.
At just 13 years old, Hacker made yet another move up the motorsports ladder as he went to a full-bodied stock car and made the bold move of competing in the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and his efforts were rewarded. He was crowned the 2013 Rookie of the Year with one win, which came at Anderson Speedway (IN) on July 19, 2013 during the tracks prestigious Redbud Weekend. His win accounted for one of his two top five finishes to go with seven top 10s.
Hacker was born with a Brachial Plexus Injury to his left arm that occurred during birth. The brachial plexus is a network of nerves that control the muscles of the shoulder, arm, elbow, wrist, hand, and fingers. He has had to have had three major surgeries which include nerve grafting and tendon transfers. In addition, he does not have full range of motion with his left arm and it is much weaker than his right arm. He races mainly with the strength of his right arm.
"I have never let it slow me down. I can do anything anyone else can do," Hacker offered when talking about his disability. "I just sometimes have to do it just a little bit differently. I actually don’t think of my arm as a disability, I think of it as an ability because it makes me work harder.” He ended.
For the remainder of the 2014 racing season, Hacker's popular white Chris Hacker Motorsports #24's Chevrolets in both the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour as well as the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series will carry sponsorship decals and support from Phantom Race Gear as well as Scott Neal Racing, Motion Motors, PGG Enterprises, McGunegill Engine Performance, Dog Dayz Playhouse & Retreat, Passion Driven Photography and M.P.H.
