Waterford, Michigan (March 18, 2014) – “Rollercoaster”, a word that best describes 21-
year old Phillip Smalley’s rookie campaign in Late Model competition. A season that
began with great promise, ended in disappointment for the Waterford, Michigan native. “It
was a season of up’s and down’s to say the least, but the up’s overshadowed the down’s
and I’m excited about the future,” stated Smalley.
Phillip & his Phillip Smalley Racing team will once again team up with JEGS/CRA hot
shoe Dan Leeck from Birch Run, Michigan. Leeck, a regular on the JEGS/CRA All Stars
Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance, finished third in the 2013 overall points
standings, after a fierce battle with eventual champion, Cody Coughlin. Leeck will serve
as Crew Chief & Driver Coach for Smalley.“ Dan has proven time and time again, that he
a wheelman, his operation is top notch and I’m honored to be a part of it,” the humbled
driver said.
Phillip & his Phillip Smalley Racing team will once again race the local short tracks of
Michigan, as well as make select appearances in the JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour
Presented by Chevrolet Performance & make a few possible trips across the border to
Canada. “We would like to add more events to the schedule for 2014, but we definitely
need to find a few more marketing partners to do so,” Smalley added.
Smalley’s 2013 season highlights include starting on the pole in his first appearance of
the season at Owosso Speedway in Ovid, Michigan, resulting in a top 10 run, as well as,
leading his first career laps later in the season at the Ovid, Michigan speed plant. He
also made his JEGS/CRA All Stars debut at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan as
part of the Silver Bullet 100 Presented by Coors Light & JEGS.com.
For the 2014 Season, Phillip & his Phillip Smalley team will field a #22 Chevrolet SS, once again powered by a McGunegill Engine Performance. Marketing Partners include Business Perspectives Online, Dan Leeck Racing Development, and NEXT Motorsports Marketing.
