Winamac, Indiana (February 5, 2014) – Short of winning the race itself, the first event of
the 2014 racing season for 14-year-old J.J. Haley and his J.J. Haley Racing Team couldn't
have gone any better. Especially considering that the 10th annual Zaxby's SpeedFest
2014 is one of the premier events that traditionally kicks off the new year anywhere in the
country.
The Winamac, Indiana teenager, who will run for the 2014 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie
of the Year title in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance,
started 15th in the 31-car field that took the green flag in the Chevrolet Performance 125,
a non-points JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour race, and brought home an impressive fourth place
finish in the JEGS/CRA portion of SpeedFest 2014 at Watermelon Capital Speedway,
located 90 minutes north of the Florida / Georgia state line in Cordele, Georgia on January
27th.
"SpeedFest was a great experience. We learned so much and we were able to get the
most out of the car every time we went out, whether it was for Practice, Qualifying and
especially the race," Haley remarked. "We had a decent car, for sure a top 15 car all
weekend and going into qualifying, the car was the best it had been all weekend even
though we time in 15th. That was a little further back than what we were hoping for, but the car was stable." He added.
After starting the 125-lap main from the inside of the eighth row, Haley's #99 Braun Ability/Chevrolet steadily worked his way towards the front and avoided a few timely cautions to crack the top five late in the race. "It felt like the only real challenge was to finish the race," Haley continued. "We were hoping to finish in the top 10 and it was for sure a surprise when we were battling for second those last few laps. The car came in late in the race and was a rocket on the high groove. Everyone on the team did a amazing job, and I can't thank all of my crew, fans and sponsor enough for starting out the year right."
Next on the 2014 schedule for the Hoosier State teenager is the 48th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at the fast 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of New Smyrna Speedway (FL) from February 14-22nd. Haley will be competing in the Pro Late Models division that will compete in five of the scheduled seven nights for Pro Late Models including Practice Day and the first two nights of the World Series. Then the final three nights including the 100-Lapper on February 20th and the Speedweeks finale on Saturday, February 22nd.
"Speedweeks is on the horizon. I will have a limited schedule down there due to my high school classes," The youngster explained. "It's going to be a amazing experience. The goal is to get a lot of seat time, skills and knowledge that will help me this year when we run in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. We're Looking forward for our trip to Florida, another new track too." He ended.
In addition to his JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour schedule. Haley will also make select appearances in the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS and will also fill the schedule with select appearances in the Vore's Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Powered by JEGS as well as in weekly competition at Toledo Speedway (OH) competing in the tracks ARCA Sportsman division.
