Indianapolis, Indiana (January 11, 2014) – The 2013 Champion Racing Association
(CRA) Powered by JEGS Awards Banquet was held on Saturday, January 11th at the
Crowne Plaza Hotel Union Station in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana as the 2013
Series Champions within the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS, JEGS/
CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance, Top Speed Fabrication CRA
Late Model Sportsman Series Powered by JEGS and Stealth Trailers CRA Street
Stocks Series Powered by JEGS were honored, along with several special award
recipients.
In the premier template bodied / crate motored series in the country; the JEGS/CRA
All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance, now 18-year-old (On December
11th) Cody Coughlin, in just his third full season of racing full-sized racecars, would
bring home the 2013 Championship in his familiar #1 JEGS.com / Chevrolet. This is
the first oval track title for the Drag Racing Coughlin family as Uncle Jeg Coughlin Jr.,
won his fifth career NHRA Pro Stock Championship in 2013 while Uncle Troy Coughlin
scored his 100th career win in a NHRA Pro Mod Series event at The Strip at Las
Vegas Motor Speedway.
During his Championship title run as a 17-year-old, the 2011 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year scored his first career JEGS/CRA win at Dixie Motor Speedway (MI) on June 7th and backed that up two weeks later with a triumph at the famed Salem Speedway (IN) on June 22nd on his way to the Championship. The Delaware, Ohio driver won the title by 58 points. Overall during his Championship winning season, Coughlin also collected a season high seven top five finishes and nine top 10 showings as well as tying for a season high of two Boyne Machine Company Fast Qualifier Awards as he shared those honors with Bubba Pollard.
Just like in the premier tour within CRA, the ARCA/CRA Super Series, now 16-year-old (On December 9th), Corey Deuser would finish second overall in the final points standings while winning the 2013 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year Title Presented by Howe Racing Enterprises. The Lanesville, Indiana teenager was one of two freshmen to pick up an event win when he steered his #14 Focus Eyewear / Ford into victory lane at the legendary Winchester Speedway (IN) on October 11th to kick off Winchester 400 Weekend. He also collected five top fives and eight top 10 finishes on his way to the coveted freshman title and impressive 2013 Runner-Up honors overall.
Birch Run, Michigan driver, Dan Leeck would secure the final spot on the podium with a third place finish in the final points tallies in his #12 Mr. Asphalt / Chevrolet. The 23-year-old finished a season and career high third at Auto City Speedway (MI) on August 10th, which was one of his two top five finishes. He also racked up seven top 10s and won his first career Boyne Machine Fast Qualifier Award at Winchester Speedway (IN) on October 11th.
JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour all-time leader in career appearances with 37 out of the 41 all-time events held, Tom Woodin in his #72 Rombaugh's Auto Sales / Ford finished a career high fourth in the final points standings as the Battle Creek, Michigan driver also picked up his first career Boyne Machine Company Fast Qualifier Award at Winchester Speedway (IN) on September 1st.
Scott Neal Racing, with six different drivers during the season including, Scott Neal himself as well as Landon Cling, Erik Jones, Johanna Long, Jimmy Novak and Kenny Wallace, would finish fourth in the final JEGS/CRA Owners Points Standings as Williamsburg, Kentucky competitor, Jerrod Foley completed the top five in the JEGS/CRA Drivers Points Standings in his #04 Quality Care Auto / Chevrolet as the most consecutive starts leader all-time with 29, picked up one top five finish, a fifth at Springport Motor Speedway (MI) on September 14th to go with five top 10s.
Positions 6-10 in the final JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Points Standings were all 2013 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title contenders as Lettow Memorial Freshman Runner-Up, 18-year-old Dominique Van Wieringen (1 Win-Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) on September 22nd) was also the first rookie in series history to Win a points event, finished just outside of the top 10 in sixth while fellow rookies, now 15-year-old (On November 16th) Jake Griffin was seventh overall and third in the rookie points. 18-year-old Kyle Crump was eighth as now 16-year-old (On December 2nd) Hunter Baize was ninth while 15-year-old Kody Evans completed the top 10.
Finishing just outside of the top 10 while competing in every points event were the Jacobs Brothers who made the trip across the border from London, Ontario / Canada as 16-year-old Jaxson Jacobs and his older brother, 20-year-old Marc Jacobs who finished 11th and 12th respectively.
Drivers picking up wins during the season that finished outside of the final top 10 in points were; Chad Finley who would score Two Wins with those coming at Columbus Motor Speedway (OH) on May 25th and at Springport Motor Speedway (MI) on September 14th. Also Trent Snyder scored a pair of triumphs at Anderson Speedway (IN) on July 19th and at Winchester Speedway (IN) on September 1st and Chase Elliott would also grab two checkered flags at Watermelon Capital Speedway (GA) on January 27th and at Lebanon I-44 Speedway (MO) on May 18th.
Those drivers picking up single wins were; 2013 ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion, Travis Braden-Berlin Raceway (MI) on June 14th, Mike Bursley-Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) on July 26th, Robbie Johnson-Auto City Speedway (MI) on August 10th and Justin South-Memphis International Raceway (TN) on October 26th.
Along-with Deuser picking up the 2013 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year Presented by Howe Racing Enterprises title, other award winners included; Crump who won the FLUIDYNE Sportsman of the Year Award while J. Jacobs picked up the Speed51.com Most Popular Driver Award. Jim Woodin, the Father and Car Owner for Tom Woodin, was the recipient of the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Dedication Award. Special Drawing Award Winners were; Leeck and M. Jacobs who each received Four (4) Aero Race Wheels while Foley won a Miller Welder as J. Jacobs and Crump each received a Five Star Racecar Body.
The 2014 Racing Season will begin for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance with the running of the Chevrolet Performance 125, the traditional 'non-points' season opener for the premier template bodied / crate motored series in the country, which is part of the Zaxby's SpeedFest 2014 on Saturday-Sunday, January 25-26th as the fast 4/10s (0.400) mile semi-banked paved oval of Watermelon Capital Speedway, located south of Macon and north of the Florida / Georgia state line in Cordele, Georgia. An optional Practice Day has been reserved for Friday, January 24th.
