Harrison, Michigan (October 7, 2014) – With the 2014 Howie Lettow Memorial
Rookie of the Year title just about wrapped up, 15-year-old rookie, Grant Quinlan has
re-shifted his focus on the final race of the 2014 racing season within the JEGS/CRA
All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. With nothing to lose now in the
freshman title chase, the Harrison, Michigan teenager is ready to go wide open in
the final race of the season within the series; the Winchester 100 Presented by
JEGS.com.
The final points race of the year for the premier template body / crate motor series in
the country will kick off the 43rd running of the Winchester 400 Weekend at the
legendary 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Winchester Speedway (IN).
While running the risk of falling back to third in the overall standings, the outside
chance at becoming the first driver in JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour history to claim both
the overall and rookie titles is something that Quinlan just can't pass up.
"We're 20 points out of first. We're going to try our very best at Winchester and see what happens," The Great Lakes State teenager relayed as he prepares for a return trip to the famed Eastern Indiana oval. "Downey Racing gave me a good car at Lucas Oil Raceway in our last race back on September 28th and have given me great equipment all year long. All we can do in this race is go all out and hope for the best. We can't thank the entire CRA staff enough for providing us with this series to run in and all the competitors we've ran against all year long." He added.
Heading into the final race of the season in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, Quinlan merely needs to start the 100-lap main and the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title is his. Overall he is second in points, 20 back of current point's leader, Dan Leeck and 22 markers ahead of third place Josh Nelms. If no one earns any Qualifying bonus points, Quinlan would have to win the race and Leeck would have to finish 10th or worse in order for Quinlan to claim the overall championship. No matter what happens, Quinlan won't leave without at least a third place in the final standings.
It's been a banner rookie season for Quinlan as he has two victories, the most of any rookie driver in JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour history. Those wins came at Salem Speedway (IN) on June 21st and at Springport Motor Speedway (MI) on September 20th. He also has six top five finishes and seven top 10 finishes as well as two Boyne Machine Company Fast Qualifier Awards, also the most by a freshman in series history. Those top qualifier awards came at Angola Motorsport Speedway (IN) on July 5th and at Springport on September 20th.
For the rest of the 2014 racing season, Quinlan's #28 Downey Racing / Chevrolet will have sponsorship decals and support from Quinlan Incorporated as well as International Tool and Mold, Five Star Racecar Bodies, McGunegill Engine Performance and M.P.H. Promotions.
