Salem, Indiana (May 22, 2014) – The Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks Powered by
JEGS will be back in action this Sunday at Kentucky Motor Speedway located in
Whitesville, KY, for the second event of the CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series, which
is featuring three 200 lap, $3000 to win events. Anderson, Indiana’s Josh Poore got the
win in the first event of the Triple Crown on April 19th at Shadybowl Speedway holding off
hard charging Jimmy Kirby to get the win over the 30 car field. The third and final event in
the Triple Crown will be at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, June 21st.
In addition to the $3000 to win for each event, there will be a Points Champion from the
three events who will receive a $1000 bonus. Second in points will receive a $500 bonus,
then there will be another $500 bonus from a random draw from the cars that attended all
three events. Phantom Racing Gear, the official Apparel Company of CRA, will again have
CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series T-Shirts on sale this Sunday, which will be available
for purchase in the pits and behind the main grandstands.
To date Sunday’s event has already attracted 30 pre-entries, with a few more expected in
the days leading up to the event. Topping the list of entries is Shadybowl winner and current Triple Crown point’s leader Josh Poore, who also picked up a win at the series last event on May 3rd at Anderson Speedway. Current series Championship point’s leader Jason Atkinson, winner of the series season opener at Lucas Oil Raceway on April 6th, is also entered. Atkinson holds a one point lead in season Championship points over Jimmy Kirby, who is also entered. Kirby is also second in Triple Crown points, three behind Poore. 2013 series Champion and current third place in Triple Crown and Championship points Dustin Burge is entered along with series rookies Brandon Mefford, James Kirby III and Jeff Johnson who are currently fourth through sixth in series Championship points.
Other CRA regulars entered include Josh Lank, J.J. Schafer, Mason Keller, Derrick Layne, Larry Lathan, Rich Segvich, Phil Jenkins and Jason Thompson, along with series rookies James Brown, Michael Walls and Joseph Hensel.
This will be the first ever CRA event in the state of Kentucky, and that state will be well represented on Sunday led by Louisville, Kentucky veteran winning racers Chuck Barnes and Shawn Smith. There are several local drivers entered, most with many laps at KMS including Owensboro natives John Hayden, who is fourth in Triple Crown points, Brett Hudson, Larry Roberts, Blake Hillard, Chris Evans and Preston King, along with Whitesville natives Jimmie Evans, Logan Boarman and Evan Burch and Derrick Bartlett from Philpot. Series regular Larry Lathan is from Campbellsburg, Kentucky.
Kentucky Motor Speedway has a very storied past and has been the starting point for several NASCAR drivers and crew members, including three time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Darrell Waltrip and his brother Michael, along with the Green brothers, David, Jeff and Mark and Jeremy Mayfield.
There is an open practice on Saturday from 1 to 5pm (Central Time). Gates open on Sunday at 10am. Practice is set to begin at 1pm with qualifying for the CRA Street Stocks at 4pm. The race program will begin at 5:15pm and will include the CRA Street Stock 200 for the Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks. Also in action will be the KMS Clone Karts, Street Stocks, Thunder Stocks and Two Seat Cruisers.
