Jenison, Michigan (September 24, 2014) – No matter what the outcome of the chase
for the 2014 ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS Championship, the
motorsports industry will know that Ross Kenseth was a title contender. From the
drop of the first green flag for points in April at Toledo Speedway (OH) to the 43rd
Running of the Winchester 400 at Winchester Speedway (IN) on October 10-12th,
Kenseth has and plans on being right there making noise and not letting defending
series champion, Travis Braden off easy at any time.
The last ARCA/CRA race for the Little Chute, Wisconsin native was at a track he
hadn't raced before; the tricky 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-banked paved oval of Kil-Kare
Raceway (OH), located southeast of Dayton in Xenia, Ohio. The Buckminn's D&D
Harley-Davidson / Oakley Blacktop 125 was held on Sunday afternoon, September
14th and was one of the two home tracks for Braden on the 2014 ARCA/CRA
schedule. So Kenseth knew he had his work cut out for him throughout the weekend.
"I think everyone knew it was a tough track to go to for the first time and that its one
of Travis' best tracks." The 21-year-old relayed upon reflecting on his first trip to the
southeast Ohio facility. "For the amount of track time we got I feel like we did a
decent job. Kil-Kare is a really challenging track that I never really got the hang of,
but to come out of there with a top five when four of those five were locals, I was
happy with that." He added. After qualifying seventh quick and starting third due to the inversion, Kenseth would leave the Buckeye State oval with a fourth place finish.
A return visit to the spacious 0.686 mile semi-banked paved oval of Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) for the McGunegill Engine Performance CRA Fall Brawl 2014 Presented by EDCO Welding is next for the now Jenison, Michigan resident. Saturday-Sunday, September 27-28th, the ARCA/CRA Super Series headlines the weekend at the track located west of Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana on the afternoon of the 28th with the running of the EDCO Welding 100 Presented by Quartermaster. It was in the last race at LOR where Kenseth has come the closest to visiting victory lane in 2014.
Back on July 25th in the first ARCA/CRA Super Series appearance at the state of the art facility, Kenseth led the first 53 laps of the Circle City 100 Presented by JEGS.com before suspension issues relegated him to an eighth place finish. "I'm excited to go back to LOR. We had a really solid car last time before the trailing arm came loose, so hopefully we can pick up where we left off and build on what we had their last time." He stated.
With just two races to go in the 2014 ARCA/CRA Super Series season, Kenseth trails Braden by just 33 points heading into LOR. He has collected four top five finishes with a season high showing of a third at Anderson Speedway (IN) back on April 26th. What's kept Kenseth within the top two in the season long points chase is the whopping 11 top 10 showings in 12 series points races during the year. He also has one Fast Qualifier Award, which came at Flat Rock Speedway (MI) back on August 16th.
In preparation for the 'post-season', Kenseth and the Boyne Machine Racing Team made the trek south to Five Flags Speedway (FL) on September 19th to prepare for the upcoming 47th Annual Snowball Derby on December 3-7th. The Southern Super Series was at the Pensacola, Florida 1/2 mile and Kenseth came away with a notebook full of information and a ninth place finish. The following night, with an intact racecar, a last minute decision was made to race in the SSS season finale at near-by Mobile International Speedway (AL) and he finished in 16th after a pit stop.
"Pensacola was a good test for us to see where we stacked up for when we go down there for the Derby. Racing those blizzard races is tough because there's easily 15 different cars that could win the race on a given night," Kenseth offered. "We thought we could've fought for fifth or sixth if the race would have played out a little bit different. Either way I learned a lot for when we go back down there in December."
"It was my first time going to Mobile, really fast track that reminded me a lot of Madison (International Speedway in Oregon, Wisconsin)." Added the son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star, Matt Kenseth. "We took a pretty big gamble on pit strategy that didn't quite pay off. We could just never get the forward drive off the corner that we need to compete with the top five." He ended.
Kenseth's black #77 will continue to carry the colors of Boyne Machine Company, Enterprise Iron & Metal and DOC360, the three primary sponsors, for the rest of the 2014 racing season. In addition, more sponsor decals and support come from McGunegill Engine Performance as well as Draco Springs, Penske Racing Shocks, AP Racing Brakes, Quartermaster, Fast Signs of Appleton, Wisconsin and M.P.H. Promotions.
