Wheeling, West Virginia (September 11, 2014) – Defending ARCA/CRA Super Series
Powered by JEGS Champion, Travis Braden has put himself in prime position to repeat.
The current points leader is looking to become only the second driver in the series' 18-
year history to score back to back titles. Joining three-time titlist, Johnny VanDoorn who
accomplished the feat in 2009 and again in 2010 (He would also add a third title in 2012).
Three races remain in Braden's quest to successfully accomplish the repeat and all three
tracks are ones where he has went to victory lane.
The first of those three remaining races is at another track where he began his Late Model
career; the tricky 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-banked paved oval of Kil-Kare Speedway (OH),
located southeast of Dayton in Xenia, Ohio. The Buckminn's D&D Harley-Davidson /
Oakley Blacktop 125 is set for Sunday afternoon, September 14th. The 20-year-old is the
defending race winner and knows his second 'home game' of the season could be the
race that propels him to that second championship.
"We're looking to reboot from our engine problems at Winchester and get into victory lane
again at one of my home tracks." The Wheeling, West Virginia driver stated. "Obviously,
with more track time than most of our competitors, I should have a slight advantage. It
would be great to get a third win heading into the final two big races at Lucas Oil Raceway
and the Winchester 400. Last year we had a blazing fast car, although it was a different
car than what we are bringing this year. Sweeping both of my home tracks would be pretty
cool too." He added.
His first of two wins in 2014 came at his 'other' home track, Columbus Motor Speedway
back on August 2nd in the Inaugural Bud St. Amant Memorial 174. He backed that victory
up two races later in the 7-Up 125 at Flat Rock Speedway (MI) on August 16th. Since the
May 31st race at Berlin Raceway (MI), the West Virginia University Engineering student hasn't finished out of the top five in any ARCA/CRA race. An incredible span of eight consecutive races. The key reason why Braden is the points leader. But that streak didn't come without some hardship.
In the last race, the Winchester 100 at Winchester Speedway (IN) over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend; Sunday-Monday, August 31-September 1st. Braden blew a motor up during his second qualifying lap. His first lap was 14th fastest. After working until 2:00a.m., on race morning to exchange power plants. Braden steadily worked his way up to a fifth place showing on Labor Day Monday after starting in 14th.
"Right from the get-go the car was way too loose. We avoided the lap three pile-up and immediately decided to head to the pits for adjustments." The Mountaineer State driver explained. "The guys did a great job fixing me up, but not overdoing the changes. After the stop, we were still too loose, but it was much more manageable. We started at the tail on the restart and worked our way through the pack, ending up in fifth which was probably all we had for the day."
Going into the Kil-Kare event, Braden leads Ross Kenseth by 22 markers (1020-998) based on Braden's three victories to go with his eight top fives. Those consecutive top fives also account for his eight top 10 finishes. For the rest of the 2014 season, Braden’s popular #01 West Virginia University / Chevrolet will also carry additional sponsorship support and decals from; Braden’s A-1 Towing & Collision as well as RememberTheMiners.org, Matheson Valley Gases, Stoney Hollow Tire, Elms Grove Eagles #1891, A.D. Baker Construction, M.P.H. Promotions, and Travis Braden Motorsports.
