Portage, Indiana (August 29, 2014) – With four races remaining in the chase for the 2014
ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS Rookie of the Year title, 17-year-old Paul
Shafer Jr., knows it's come down to him and Wes Griffith Jr., who will decide the outcome
of the freshman crown. While Griffith Jr., may have the edge in overall experience having
raced for several seasons in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet
Performance, Shafer Jr., knows that anything can happen in the final four races, especially
within the ARCA/CRA Super Series.
The Portage, Indiana teenager is coming off of an ARCA/CRA Super Series career high
finish of a fourth in the last event, the 7-Up 125 at Flat Rock Speedway (MI) on August
16th. Combined with Griffith Jr.'s 11th place showing, Shafer Jr., picked up some valuable
points on the fellow Chicagoland freshman. "When I arrived at the track, I wasn't quite
sure what to think of the place, but leaving Flat Rock it is one of my better tracks. After
our season best of fourth, the whole team is excited to go to Winchester next." He stated.
The legendary 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Winchester Speedway (IN) is
next for Shafer Jr., and his Shafer Motorsports Team on Sunday-Monday, August 31-
September 1st. The prestigious Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival will be
highlighted by the ARCA/CRA Super Series event, the Winchester 100, which not only
starts off the final home stretch of races for the series, but also serves as the lone tune-up for the 43rd Running of the Winchester 400 on October 10-12th.
"I've heard crazy things about Winchester. I've heard banked, I've heard fast, and I've also heard a lot of wrecks happen there."Laughed Shafer Jr., as he prepares to take his first look at the legendary track in Eastern Indiana. "I'd like to leave Winchester in one piece, but I also see it as an opportunity to gain points on Wes (Griffith Jr.). Either way it should be a fun weekend because again, I am learning a new race track." He ended.
In 10 ARCA/CRA Super Series points races, Shafer Jr., remains firmly in second place in the chase for the 2014 Rookie of the Year title. He finally has his first top five, the fourth place at Flat Rock, to go with four top 10 finishes. With that career high showing, Shafer Jr., is now fourth overall in the title chase. While he has still some ground to make up on freshman points leader, Wes Griffith Jr., 54 markers back, there's still time left with four races left.
For the rest of the 2014 racing season, Shafer Jr.'s black and purple #7 Shafer Motorsports / Chevrolet which is a Pathfinder Chassis with horsepower under the hood from Hamner Racing Engines will carry sponsorship support and decals all year long from Southlake Body as well as Maxim Powersports, Genesis Energy Consultants, Paul's Auto Yard and M.P.H. Promotions.
