Wheeling, West Virginia (August 29, 2014) – With the slow start to the 2014 season for
Travis Braden now a distant memory, the defending ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by
JEGS Champion has firmly put himself in a great position to repeat as champion. The
Wheeling, West Virginia standout scored his second victory of the season in a hard
fought 7-Up 125 at Flat Rock Speedway (MI) on August 16th. The remaining four races on
the schedule are very favorable to the reigning champion and he knows it.
The next race on the schedule is at his favorite race track; the legendary 1/2 (0.500) mile
high-banked paved oval of Winchester Speedway (IN), located just west of the Indiana /
Ohio state line in Winchester, Indiana. The prestigious Labor Day Weekend World Stock
Car Festival is on Sunday-Monday, August 31-September 1st at the famed high-banks in
Eastern Indiana and begins the final home stretch for the ARCA/CRA Super Series. The
final four events, including two at Winchester are all at tracks where the 20-year-old has
went to victory lane in the series.
"We have four of my best race tracks coming up, Winchester twice, LOR, and one of my
home tracks, Kil-Kare. All four should be great chances for us to get some more wins."
The West Virginia University Engineering student stated. "I can't wait to get to Winchester
this weekend and go for a big third win while preparing for the Winchester 400. We are
still in the hunt for the JEGS Triple Crown Series points championship if Daniel (Hemric) or Johnny (VanDoorn) don't win in October." He added.
In his last victory at Flat Rock, Braden survived a lengthy dual with 2013 Rookie of the Year, Ali Kern, as well as fatigue to capture his second ARCA/CRA Super Series victory of the season and sixth of his career. "Business in the Wins column is finally picking up for us. Ever since the very first race at Toledo we have had a tremendous amount of speed every week but between the electrical issues in the first three races and just bringing home consistent top five's each week, we were getting mighty hungry for a trip to victory lane." He laughed.
"Just like it always seems to work, once we finally got that first win of the year at Columbus, the wins seem to get more frequent. After a hard fought day at Kalamazoo coming from 13th to third but not having enough time to chase down the leaders, Flat Rock turned out to be a great night with a strong second place qualifying effort and a quick charge to the front where we would stay all night." He explained.
"In all honesty, the car was actually not a good as we had been in most races this year. It had the speed, but we anticipated a much tighter racetrack once the sun went down and we ended up being extremely loose right from the get go." The sophomore at WVU continued. "The rough pavement and uneven banking transitions were very difficult to maneuver and I found myself scraping to get higher and higher up in the groove to avoid all of that. I was hoping to get a green to checkered race because I knew restarts would be tough."
"Ali (Kern) gave us a great run for our money and at one point I was almost certain she had us beat. Luckily for me, one of the final restarts surprisingly worked out well for me and we found ourselves back in the lead. From there we could pull for away from Ali and Steve (Dorer), but it was just enough to hold them off and score our second win in the past three races." He ended.
Heading into Labor Day Weekend at Winchester, Braden leads Ross Kenseth by 18 markers (930-912) as Braden now has two victories to go with seven top fives, all in a row, which also account for his seven top 10 finishes. For the rest of the 2014 season, Braden’s popular #01 West Virginia University / Chevrolet will also carry additional sponsorship support and decals from; Braden’s A-1 Towing & Collision as well as RememberTheMiners.org, Matheson Valley Gases, Stoney Hollow Tire, Elms Grove Eagles #1891, A.D. Baker Construction, M.P.H. Promotions, and Travis Braden Motorsports.
