CRA Takes on High Banks of Winchester Speedway in Traditional Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival
Several ARCA/CRA Super Series Teams Tuning Up for the Winchester 400

Salem, Indiana (August 27, 2014) – Champion Racing Association will be taking on the
famous High Banks of historic Winchester Speedway this weekend with the famous
Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival, one of the biggest stock car events held
each year in Central Indiana. The weekend will feature exciting racing action from the
ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS, JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by
Chevrolet Performance, Top Speed Modifieds, Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model
Sportsman, Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks and the Vores Touring Compacts.
Camping will be available all weekend and there will also be the annual Sunday night
party in the pavilion featuring live music.
The ARCA/CRA Super Series has had 39 events to date at Winchester Speedway. Three
time ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion Johnny VanDoorn is the series all-time winner
at Winchester Speedway with five wins. 2013 series Champion and current series points’
leader Travis Braden tops the list of entries to date for this weekend. Braden comes into
Monday’s feature event with an 18 point leader over second place Ross Kenseth, son of
NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Matt Kenseth, who is also entered. Braden picked up his
first series win at Winchester in a 100 lap event in July of 2013, while Kenseth was the
winner of the 2012 Winchester 400.
Three time series Champion Scott Hantz is tied with former two time series Champion
Brian Ross and Bull Baker for second most series wins at Winchester with three apiece,
Hantz is entered for Monday’s event. Other former series winners at Winchester who are
entered for this weekend’s event includes two time winners Tommy St. John and Jeff
Fultz , both of Fultz’s victories at Winchester have come on Labor Day Weekend, and
single event Winchester winner Rick Turner who is now the series all-time starts leader
after the series last event on August 16th at Flat Rock Speedway.
Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year leader Wes Griffith Jr. and fellow rookie Paul
Shafer Jr., who are third and fourth in current series Championship points, are both
entered. Other top CRA regulars entered include sixth in points Ali Kern, eighth in points
Nick Gullatta, 2013 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion Cody Coughlin, Brandon Oakley,
Eddie Van Meter, Brandon Watson, Matt Hall, Justin Claucherty, Thomas Woodin and
former CRA regular Terry Fisher Jr. will make his 2014 series debut. JEGS/CRA All-Stars
Tour 2014 winner JJ Haley will also make his series debut this weekend.
This event always attracts late model teams from around the country looking to get laps on the High Banks prior to the Annual Winchester 400. Some of the top drivers from the South have entered including North Carolina’s Daniel Hemric, the 2012 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion, now driving for the Carswell Motorsports team out of Georgia. The 2013 Southern Super Series Champion was the winner of the Redbud 300 at Anderson Speedway and has a chance at a $10,000 bonus with the JEGS/CRA $100,000 Super Late Model Triple Crown if he can win the Winchester 400.
Other South drivers entered include, Georgia teenager Anderson Bowen, a winner with the Southern Super Series this year and winner of the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour 2nd Annual Mercy Masters of the Pros 144 in May. Fellow Georgia teenager Spenser Davis is entered, Davis has been racing mostly with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour this season. Arizona’s Landon Cling is also entered driving for North Carolina Owner and Crew Chief Gray Crooks.
JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour current point’s leader Dan Leeck tops the list of CRA regulars entered for Sunday night’s JEGS Tour event. Leeck has a 32 point lead over Josh Nelms who is also entered. Other top series competitors who are entered include Columbus winner Hunter Baize, Dominique Van Wieringen, who finished second at Winchester last October, Corey Deuser, winner of last season’s October series event at Winchester, also Jaxson Jacobs, Marc Jacobs, Jack Smith and Keith Sterkowitz, a former winner at Winchester in the CRA Late Model Sportsman. A strong group of Howie Lettow Rookie of the Year Presented by Howe Racing candidates is also entered including current rookie point’s leader Grant Quinlan, who got the series win on the High Banks of Salem Speedway in June, along with fellow rookies Dalton Armstrong, Cole Rouse, Tristan Van Wieringen and 2014 series winner JJ Haley.
Defending event winner Trent Snyder leads a talented group of part-time series competitors who are entered that also includes North Carolina teenager Garret Jones, who finished second at Salem Speedway, Ohio’s Kyle Jones, Colin Nickolai and Brandon Oakley, Michigan’s Jon Beach, Kentucky’s Kevin Willis and Georgia’s Spencer Davis.
This weekend will be the seventh event of the season for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman, to date the series has had six different winners in the six events held so far this season. Series event winners in 2014 include Chris Hacker, Trey Craig , Danny Trent, Greg Van Alst, Jason Atkinson and Shawn Amor who got the win in the series last event at Angola Motor Speedway on August 10th.
Van Alst has now taken over the series points lead heading into this weekend, he has a six point lead over top series rookie Jack Dossey III. Atkinson and Billy Van Meter are tied for third place, they are 16 points behind Dossey, rookie J.P. Crabtree is in fifth place, he is 13 points behind Atkinson and Van Meter. The top five are only separated by 35 points with only four points races left in the season.
This weekend will be the ninth race of the season for the Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks. Jason Atkinson tops the series with three wins so far this season including the series last event on August 10th at Angola Motorsports Speedway. Josh Poore has two wins. Single event winners include Brett Hudson, Bret Miles Jr. and 2013 series Champion Dustin Burge.
Atkinson comes into this weekend’s event as the current series point’s leader after winning the CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Points Championship and the $1000 cash bonus and Crumrine Buckle Manufacturing Championship Buckle. Atkinson has built a commanding 69 point lead over Burge, who has a 93 point lead over leading series rookie Jeff Johnson who is in third place. Josh Lank is in fourth in points, he is seven points behind Johnson. 2012 series Champion Jimmy Kirby is in fifth place, he is four points behind Lank.
There will be an open practice for all divisions on Saturday, pits open at 10am, and rotating practice will go from 1pm until 5pm. There will be security at the track all weekend so teams can leave their equipment in the track. Pits open on Sunday at 7:30am, practice will begin at 10am with qualifying starting at 3pm. Racing action on Sunday will begin at 6pm and will include heat races for the Top Speed Modifieds, Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman, Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks and the Vores Touring Compacts. The Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour will be the first feature of the night and will be followed by a 20 lap feature for the Vores Touring Compacts. The traditional Sunday night party will begin after the racing is completed.
Pits open on Monday at 9am, there will be a short warm-up session for all cars starting at 11am. Any last chance races will be ran at 12noon. The first of four feature events will start at 1pm with the 40 lap Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman feature that will be followed by the 100 lap ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS feature, the 50 lap Top Speed Modifieds feature, with the 40 lap Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks feature ending the day.
