Salem, Indiana (August 25, 2014) – As the 2014 season starts to wind down for all the Champion Racing Association divisions heading into this weekend’s Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival at Winchester Speedway, the top Rookie of the Year candidates have emerged who are still in some tough competition with just a hand full of races left in each divisions 2014 season.
For the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS, the race has come down to two racers, Wes Griffith Jr., a JEGS/
CRA All-Stars Tour veteran who made the jump to run with the Super Series full-time this season, and 17 year old Paul
Shafer Jr. the 2013 Illiana Motor Speedway Late Model Champion, who is running his first full season with CRA.
Heading into this weekend’s event, Griffith holds a 32 point lead in adjusted Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year
points over Shafer. Griffith has a series leading four Senneker Performance Rookie of the Race Awards to date, which
is awarded to each series events top finishing rookie. Shafer has three Senneker Performance Rookie of the Race
Awards to date, while part-time series rookie Cody Coughlin has two awards and part-time series rookie Brandon Watson one award so far this season. The series has four events left on its 2014 schedule.
In the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance, 15 year old Grant Quinlan is the current Howie Lettow
Rookie of the Year Presented by Howe Racing point’s leader. Quinlan, who won his first ever series race at Salem Speedway
on June 21st, holds a 21 point lead in adjusted points over Dalton Armstrong in the rookie race. Tristan Van Wieringen is in
third place, he is 50 points behind Armstrong. Cole Rouse is in fourth place, he is eight points behind Van Wieringen. Those
four are the only contenders left for the 2014 season award, JJ Haley, Amber Slagle and Chris Hacker have all just run in
selected series events in 2014. Quinlan has a series leading four Howe Racing Rookie of the Race Awards to date, which is
awarded to each series events top finishing rookie. Haley has two awards, plus a win in the series season opener at Springport
Speedway. Armstrong and Rouse both have one Howe Racing Rookie of the Race Award to date. The series has five events lefton its 2014 schedule.
Jack Dossey III has had an impressive rookie season with the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS, he
currently is the top rookie in season points and was the series Championship points leader for several weeks. Dossey is currently
second in season Championship points, he is only six points behind current points leader Greg Van Alst. J.P. Crabtree is the second
highest rookie in series points, he is currently fifth is season Championship points, 29 points behind Dossey III. Quinnton Bear is the
only other rookie driver in the top ten in points, he is currently in ninth place, 58 points behind Crabtree. The series has four events left on its 2014 schedule.
Jeff Johnson is the highest rookie driver in Stealth Trailer CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS Championship points to date. Johnson
is currently in third place in series points. James Kirby III is the second highest rookie driver in Championship points, he is currently in
seventh place, 22 points behind Johnson. Rookie Brandon Mefford in in eighth place in season Championship points, 80 points behind
Kirby after having to miss the series last event at Angola Motorsports Speedway because of heavy damage his racecar received in a
crash at Anderson Speedway on August 2nd. Fellow rookie Michael Walls is in ninth place in series points, he is 12 points behind Mefford. The series has four events left on its 2014 schedule.
