Yorktown, Indiana (June 26, 2014) – After a ninth place finish at his home track of
Anderson Speedway in the Stoops Freightliner Redbud 300, veteran Rick Turner is
looking for more improvement. The Yorktown, Indiana driver sits eighth in the ARCA/CRA
Super Series Powered by JEGS points standings, just eight points outside of the top five.
Positions fourth through ninth are separated by just 30 points so every position matters
heading into a pivotal stretch of races for the series.
The next race on the ARCA/CRA Super Series schedule is set for Saturday, June 28th.
The JEGS 125 Presented by CoughlinCars.com is at Columbus Motor Speedway in
Columbus, Ohio. It'll be the first appearance for the series at the 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-
banked paved oval since the 2011 season. The Turner Racing Team was there over the
Memorial Day Holiday Weekend on May 24th with Cole Rouse and Turner feels he can
take some of those notes and apply them to his program.
"We were good a couple weeks ago with Cole Rouse in the crate car so I hope that
carries over to us this weekend with the Super Late." The 56-year-old driver stated as he
and his Turner Racing Team continue preparations for the trip East on I-70. "Columbus is
a great track and we have had a rough start this season, but we are working hard to get it
right. We'll be ok." He added.
The 'Y-Town Hustler' will make his 220th career start in the ARCA/CRA Super Series, good for second all-time as he will then be only three starts behind the now retired Kenny Tweedy (223) for the all-time lead. Turner is also amongst the all-time leaders in nearly every statistical category within the series' 18-year history.
In the last race, the Redbud 300 at Anderson, Turner qualified 12th quick and would start the race from the outside of the sixth row. "(Crew Chief) Richard (Turner) made a big change after Practice and it made the car a lot better for qualifying. We had a great game plan stay out of trouble the first 150 and take no tires and with all the yellows our tires looked great." He continued. With the strategy to not take any tires at the break, Turner would come out for the second half leading the field to the green.
"Bubba (Pollard) got around us and we were just going to use track position to stay there and then we cut a right front tire so that put us down a couple of laps. So we were still fast just could not get our laps back. But I think we now have something to work with for the rest of the year." He ended
For the rest of the 2014 racing season, Turner's black and red #26 will have sponsor decals from T.J. Racing Lubricants as well as McGunegill Engine Performance, G&G Oil of Indiana, AR Bodies, Schoenfeld Headers, Port City Racecars, Q.S. Components, A.J.'s High-Speed Graphics, Heartfelt Creations, M.P.H. Promotions and Rick Turner Racing.
