Salem, Indiana (June 24, 2014) – The ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS will be
back in action this weekend, returning to Columbus Motor Speedway, located in
Columbus, Ohio for this Saturday’s JEGS 125 Presented by CoughlinCars.com. The
series will return to the tight quarter mile oval for the first time since May 30th, 2011, when
Ross Kenseth and Tim Curry put on an epic late race battle for the win, with Kenseth
coming out on top.
Kenseth, the son of NASCA Sprint Cup Champion Matt Kenseth, tops the list of entries to
date for Saturday’s event. Kenseth comes into Saturday’s event as the series point’s
leader by eight points over Brian Campbell, who is also entered. Campbell had been the
point’s leader all season until an opening lap accident ended his night early at the Redbud
300 on June 14th, giving the points lead to Kenseth. Campbell has been to victory lane
two times so far this season, Kenseth is looking to get his new Boyne Machine Racing
Team to victory lane for the first time this season Saturday night.
Other top CRA drivers entered include 2013 series Champion Travis Braden, who has
scored numerous feature wins at Columbus in the local Late Model division. Braden will
have Columbus legend Gary St. Amant calling the shots as Crew Chief for the West
Virginia native. Other top series drivers entered include CRA veteran Rick Turner, last
year’s Rookie of the Year Ali Kern, Nick Gullatta, Matt Hall and Beavercreek, Ohio’s
Brandon Oakley. Multi-time CRA winner Tommy St. John will make his 2014 series debut
Saturday night. All the top Senneker Performance Rookie drivers are entered including
Paul Shafer Jr., Wes Griffith Jr. and Canadian Brandon Watson.
There will be lots of local interest in this event with several local drivers entered including
2013 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion Cody Coughlin, a native of nearby Delaware.
Coughlin is running a partial schedule with the ARCA Racing Series in 2014 and in
selected CRA events. Coughlin had two wins in his Championship season at Dixie Motor
Speedway and on the High Banks of Salem Speedway. Coughlin came from 16th to finish
fourth in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event at Columbus on May 24th.
Germantown, Ohio racer Kyle Jones is entered along with Enon’s Mike Stacy in the KMS
Racing owned car out of Lewis Center. Famed Columbus Motor Speedway Champion
Donnie Hill is entered along with local competitor Bobby Justus. Cincinnati veteran racer
Jeep Pflum is also entered.
15 year old J.J. Haley is entered, Haley won the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour season opener at Springport Speedway and became the youngest ever pole sitter for an ARCA Racing Series event last Saturday night at Elko Speedway were he finished third. Another JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour competitor, 16 year old Hunter Baize, will make his ARCA/CRA Super Series debut Saturday night, Baize won the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event at Columbus Motor Speedway on May 24th.
As was highlighted a couple of weeks ago, Vermont veteran racer Brian Hoar will make his CRA debut Saturday night. Hoar won his 40th ACT Late Model feature on June 14th. Hoar has decided to venture out and do some Super Late Model racing, hitting some of the bigger events around the country this season.
Two more drivers will also make their ARCA/CRA Super Series debuts Saturday night at Columbus, Joe Ryan Osborne from Huntersville, North Carolina will make the long haul to race this weekend along with Clark Lake, Michigan driver Justin Claucherty.
There will be an open practice on Friday, pit gates open at 4pm with practice going from 5 to 8pm. On Saturday pit gates will open for the ARCA/CRA Super Series teams at 12:30pm. Practice will begin at 3pm with qualifying for the series at 6:15pm. The race program will begin at 7pm and will include the JEGS 125 Presented by CoughlinCars.com for the ARCA/CRA Super Series. Also racing on Saturday night will be the Columbus Late Models, Modifieds, Sport Stocks and Compacts.
