Portage, Indiana (June 18, 2014) – After running 300 laps in the Stoops Freightliner
Redbud 300 on June 21st, 17-year-old Paul Shafer Jr., and his Shafer Motorsports Team
was very satisfied with the eighth place showing. The Portage, Indiana drivers' second
appearance of the season at the fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval of Anderson
Speedway (IN) proved that he belonged amongst the elite Super Late Model drivers in the
country. The race was also the first event within the $100,000 JEGS Triple Crown Series
for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS.
"The Redbud was a fun and an interesting 300 laps. We ended up eighth which was pretty
good, solid nonetheless. I learned a lot about passing and things like that, which will help
when we go back to another small quarter mile track." The Hoosier State teenager
remarked. "The best part about Anderson wasn’t our finish, but the fact that we left with
the rookie points lead. Hopefully we can carry that momentum throughout the rest of the
season." He added.
After Anderson, Shafer Jr., now leads the 2014 Rookie of the Year title chase by just two
points over Wes Griffith Jr., and only nine markers ahead of Brandon Watson. He's also
an impressive fourth overall in the title chase with three top 10 finishes. His season high
of seventh came at his home track of Illiana Motor Speedway (IN) during Border Wars II -
Calypso Lemonade 150 on Memorial Day Monday, May 26th.
With a weekend off from ARCA/CRA Super Series racing, Shafer Jr., and crew will get
back into ARCA Midwest Tour Presented by SCAG Power Equipment mode this Friday,
June 20th. The Calypso Lemonade 100 is at the 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-banked paved oval
of Grundy County Speedway, located west of Joliet in Morris, Illinois. The fairgrounds oval
is one track that Shafer Jr., does have experience on after a season so far of mostly new
tracks.
"Grundy will be much less of a learning curve than most other weeks. I’ve been there
before and won a weekly show there last summer." Continued the rookie of the year title
contender in both the ARCA/CRA Super Series and ARCA Midwest Tour. "I qualified fifth
in last year’s Midwest Tour race at Grundy, but a flat tire ended our night. Both (Crew
Chief) Chris (Purdy) and I have learned a lot so far this season, so hopefully we can have
a good run at a track close to home." He ended.
For the remainder of the 2014 racing season in both the ARCA/CRA Super Series and ARCA Midwest Tour, Shafer Jr.'s popular black and purple #7 Shafer Motorsports / Chevrolet which is a Pathfinder Chassis with horsepower under the hood from Hamner Racing Engines will carry sponsorship support and decals all year long from Southlake Body as well as Maxim Powersports and M.P.H.
