Cutlerville, Michigan (May 29, 2014) – It's been a long off season for Jay Niewiek and the
Jay Niewiek Motorsports team. The original plans for the Cutlerville, Michigan driver were
to make another run at the 2014 ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS
championship. When those plans fell through, the team had to regroup and come up with
a 'Plan B'. While the team isn't racing as much as it would like, they are looking to make
the most of those events they do participate in.
After making their first start of the season in the Boyne Machine Super Late Model Series
at his home track of Berlin Raceway. The track, which is located roughly 20 minutes from
the race shop in Marne, Michigan on May 17th, served as more of a test session than a
race for the team. Now Niewiek and crew are ready to get back into ARCA/CRA mode
starting this Saturday, May 31st in the running of the Berlin 125 Presented by
AutoWorldFinancial.com.
"We're ready to go, the car is ready, the team is ready, and I know I'm ready. It's been a long off season. I hate it that we've missed the first three ARCA/CRA shows, but hopefully we can make the ones we do come to count," The recently turned 21-year-old remarked. "We shook the car down a couple of weekends ago and hopefully worked the bugs out of it. Looks like a strong field on the entry list. We'll be ready." He added.
Despite missing several ARCA/CRA Super Series points’ races in 2013, Niewiek still finished 14th in the season long point’s chase, just 39 points outside of the coveted top 10 in the Drivers Points Standings. He recorded three top 10 finishes with a season high of an eighth, which he did twice. At Berlin on August 3rd, 2013 and again at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana back on May 4th.
Jay Niewiek started his racing career at just six years old in Bicycle Motocross (BMX) through the National Bicycle League in Michigan before moving into four-wheeled racing in Go-Karts. Then at the age of 14, he went Arena Car Racing with the Grand Rapids Platinum Cup Series at the DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. During his rookie year in the 2008/2009 Winter Season, he scored Four Wins and 10 Top 10 finishes.
In 2009, he raced in the Bishop Performance Legend Cars Club before returning to Arena Racing during the 2009/2010 Winter Racing Season and finished second in the season long points chase to former ASA National Tour standout, Dave Sensiba. During the season, Niewiek scored five feature wins including three in a row at one point during the year. In addition, he also racked up 14 Top 10 Finishes and two pole awards. Amongst the highlights of that season was one night where he swept an entire night by scoring the fastest practice speed, won the fast qualifier award, won the heat race, and the feature on the same night.
The 2010 racing season presented a big challenge to Niewiek and the entire Jay Niewiek Motorsports operation as the then 16-year-old made the huge leap from Arena Racing to the ARCA/CRA Super Series and he finished an impressive third in the rookie of the year title chase while securing a 10th place overall finish in the final points standings. His best finish was a ninth in the prestigious Winchester 400 at the legendary ½ mile high-banks of Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana. He also scored the first of his two consecutive Hard-Charger Awards during his rookie season.
Niewiek’s sophomore season in the ARCA/CRA Super Series in 2011 saw the Western Michigan rising star climb up to an impressive sixth in the final points standings while scoring his first career top five finish, which was a fourth place showing at Lucas Oil Raceway in Clermont, Indiana back on June 12th, 2011. Overall he scored two top fives which also accounted for his two top 10 finishes and he would also collect his second consecutive Hard-Charger Award for the season in the series.
In ARCA/CRA Super Series competition during 2012 racing season, the Great Lakes State teenager finished out the year with two five finishes with a season high fourth place showing at Flat Rock Speedway in Flat Rock, Michigan back to go with his fifth place in the Winchester 400. He also picked up five top 10s and 10 top 15’s in 16 overall starts which also includes one appearance in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. Niewiek would also score his third consecutive Hard-Charger of the Year award within the ARCA/CRA Super Series.
