Portage, Indiana (May 1, 2014) – Paul Shafer Jr., has made no secret about his 2014
plans for the racing season. The 17-year-old will traveling just about every weekend during
the season as he competes for the Rookie of the Year title in the ARCA/CRA Super
Series Powered by JEGS as well as the ARCA Midwest Tour Presented by SCAG Power
Equipment. There is only a single conflict on the schedule, but the Shafer Motorsports
Team will worry about that a little closer to the date.
In the meantime, the Portage, Indiana driver is getting his feet wet with the ARCA/CRA
Super Series as the second race of the season, another new track to Shafer Jr., and the
team; the fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval of Anderson Speedway (IN) on
April 26th for the Anderson Properties 125 Presented by Great Deals Savings Magazine.
The tight 1/4 mile proved to be a challenge, but one that Shafer Jr., and crew were up for.
After qualifying seventh and just missing the six invert, the Hoosier State teenager would
start the 125-lap main from the inside of the fourth row. "Anderson was definitely a
learning experience; I learned a lot though. I was running sixth on a restart when I got into
the outside wall and lost a few spots. After that I never really recovered and ended up
eighth." He explained. "I had some trouble with being loose off, but eighth isn’t too bad
considering I’ve never been there before." He added.
Now Shafer Jr., and company will get into ARCA Midwest Tour mode for a couple of weeks beginning on Sunday, May 4th. The second race of the season for the Wisconsin based series is the 6th Annual Joe Shear Classic 100 at the fast 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Madison International Speedway, located south of Madison in Oregon, Wisconsin. A track that Shafer Jr., does have seat time on.
"This week is Madison. I’m excited to be racing there again. Last time raced at Madison there we learned a lot and took some good notes, so we will be one step ahead when get there." Shafer Jr., continued. "I’m glad to be back on a track that we have been to before. It’ll be a little less for me to figure out when we get there, allowing us to work solely on setup. Hopefully we can have a good run and finish in one piece." He ended.
At just 16 years old, Paul Shafer Jr., won the 2013 Illiana Motor Speedway Super Late Model Track Championship against a strong field of weekly Super Late Model competitors. The Portage, Indiana rising start then ended the year by qualifying into the 46th annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway (FL) where he finished 17th in the biggest race in the country for Super Late Models after qualifying into the show in 15th out of 57 of the best drivers in the country.
