Portage, Indiana (May 13, 2014) – As the 2014 racing season continues for 17-year-old
Paul Shafer Jr., continues to visit new tracks on a weekly basis. Traveling away from
home for the first time in his career, Shafer Jr., is going to school in more ways than one
in terms of learning new facilities while also running in longer distance events. That trend
will continue this Saturday, May 17th with a trip to the fast 1/4 (0.250) mile semi-banked
paved oval of State Park Speedway located northwest of Green Bay in Wausau,
Wisconsin.
The State Park 125 at the track in Northern Wisconsin will be another new facility to learn
for the Portage, Indiana teenager who is running for the Rookie of the Year titles in both
the ARCA Midwest Tour Presented by SCAG Power Equipment as well as in the ARCA/
CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS. In addition to new facilities, Shafer Jr., is also
learning to run with different teams as well.
"I’m looking forward to running with the Midwest Tour again. Every place they race, it
seems there are so many fast and experienced drivers." Stated the Hoosier State
teenager. "I’ve never raced at Wausau before so same story, different week, but I have
seen the track. We tested there once. The track was definitely different than other tracks I’ve been on. There was no grip at all. The track, being so different, will help both (Crew Chief) Chris (Purdy) and I learn a lot." He added.
As for his consistent learning on the fly type of schedule, Shafer Jr., feels that by hitting several new tracks at once, it'll help him and his team down the road. "I’ll learn a little more about passing and things like that, while Chris will get even better on setup. I think we are getting better. The results haven’t shown up yet, but we are moving forward. Eventually everything will click and all the experience will pay off." He ended.
After State Park, Shafer Jr., will then get back out onto a familiar surface, the 1/2 (0.500) mile semi-banked paved oval of Illiana Motor Speedway (IN) for the second Border Wars event pitting the ARCA/CRA Super Series head to head with the ARCA Midwest Tour teams. The Calypso Lemonade 150 is set for Memorial Day Monday, May 26th. Illiana is the sight of his 2013 Super Late Model Track Championship and he hopes that his home track advantage will help him in his quest for both tours' rookie of the year titles.
For the rest of the 2014 campaign, Shafer Jr.'s black and purple #7 Shafer Motorsports / Chevrolet which is a Pathfinder Chassis with power under the hood from Hamner Racing Engines will carry sponsorship support and decals from Southlake Body as well as Maxim Powersports and M.P.H. Promotions.
