Middletown, Indiana (April 3, 2014) – Prior to the start of the 2014 racing season, 19-
year-old Dalton Armstrong had never sat behind the wheel of a full bodied stock car. All of
his racing experience leading into the current campaign was in an open wheeled machine.
After competing down in Florida during Speedweeks, he got a taste of what stock car
racing was all about and he liked it so much that the remainder of his 2014 schedule is
going to feature an aggressive slate of events within Champion Racing Association (CRA)
Powered by JEGS.
For the rest of the 2014 racing season, Armstrong, who had already joined forces with
perennial Late Model powerhouse, Scott Neal Racing and already announced his
intentions on making a run for the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the
JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance has tentatively thrown his
hat into the ring for the 2014 Rookie of the Year title in the ARCA/CRA Super Series
Powered by JEGS as well.
The ARCA/CRA Super Series points season starts things off on April 12th at a track
where he's seen a lot of time at over the past couple of seasons in open-wheeled
competition; the fast 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Toledo Speedway (OH) for
Border Wars I - 7-Up 150. The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour season starts on May 4th at
Springport Motor Speedway (MI) with the running of the Cabin Fever 100 Presented by
JEGS.com. In between those two events is an ARCA/CRA Super Series race; the Anderson 125 at Anderson Speedway (IN) on April 26th.
Before those shows however, Armstrong is going to get even more seat time in other full bodied avenues. The New Castle, Indiana driver will make the short one hour trip down to a track where he has turned many laps at; Lucas Oil Raceway (IN), located west of Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana for the UAW Motorsports Presents the 5th Annual March of Dimes Cabin Fever Championships and compete in the headlining Vore's Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Powered by JEGS portion of the event, the Lucas Oil 40.
"I'm ready to get back in the car and head to Lucas Oil Raceway and see how things go." Stated Armstrong. "Super excited for this weekend and next weekend in the Super Late Model. Just got to try to go run our race stay out of trouble and learn as much as we can and maybe walk away with some good finishes. Big thanks to SNR and all of our supporters." He added.
His first foray into the world of full bodied stock car racing came in the 48th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) during the month of February. Armstrong raced in the Pro Late Models division and would finish 15th in the final points standings despite missing two of the seven nights of racing. He recorded one top five finish on February 17th and overall collected three finishes within the top 15.
"It was a good learning experience. We had some bad luck, but had some good finishes learned a lot and got the bugs out." Continued the Hoosier State teenager. "We're feeling pretty good about starting the season already and getting some races under our belts. Now we're just ready to get back on the track." He ended.
The younger brother of NASCAR Nationwide Series driver, Dakoda Armstrong, and a cousin to USAC standout, Caleb Armstrong, finished sixth in the 2013 USAC National Pavement Midget Series Points as well as 14th in the USAC National Dirt Midget Points. Overall he acquired four top five finishes with a season high of a third coming at Grundy County Speedway (IL). He also racked up eight top 10 finishes while going back and forth from pavement tracks to dirt facilities.
Scott Neal Racing, with six different drivers behind the wheel, including Neal himself was able to finish fourth in the 2013 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance Owners Points Standings. Overall during the season, the six drivers amassed one top five finish, by Landon Cling back on June 7th, 2013 at Dixie Motor Speedway (MI), which was a third place showing. Neal was the one who garnered the lone Fast Qualifier Award, which came at Auto City Speedway (MI) on August 10th. Overall, the six drivers collected seven top 10 finishes.
SNR also ran in the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS in 2013 as Neal himself, along-with Cling and Austin Self made four total appearances in the premier tour within Champion Racing Association (CRA) Powered by JEGS. Now 14-year-old Chris Hacker was a part of SNR competing in the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and won the 2013 Rookie of the Year title while finishing fourth overall in the points with one event win, at Anderson Speedway (IN) on July 19th.
For the remainder of the 2014 racing season, Armstrong will be behind the wheel of the various #4 Scott Neal Racing Chevrolets sporting sponsorship decals and graphics from WinField Solutions and Baker Crop Insurance as well as Motion Motors, Schoenfeld Headers, Ultra Cool Brake Fans, PGG Enterprises, QS Components and M.P.H.
