Fremont, Ohio (April 17, 2014) – Ali Kern, the 2013 Rookie of the Year and overall runner-
up in the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS was hoping for a strong start in her
sophomore season with the series. The Fremont, Ohio driver was ready to roll with the
2014 season opener; Border Wars I - 7-Up 150 at fast 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved
oval of Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio on April 12th. This event was also the first of two
combination races pitting the ARCA/CRA stars against the ARCA Midwest Tour.
The weekend started with high hopes as the 20-year-old, who turns 21 on May 11th,
topped the overall practice charts the day before on April 11th and was riding some nice
momentum going into race day. "We rolled out of the hauler with an amazing car on
Friday. We ran on old tires throughout practice and then put some stickers and tape on
and went back out and went straight to the top of the board." She excitedly stated. "The
car felt really good and this was only the second time I've raced at Toledo, so we were
very happy with everything and was looking forward to Saturday."
On race day, problems began to ensue for the driver of the #28 CROWN BATTERY / Ford
as a clutch started slipping during the one and only practice of the morning. Kern would
then qualify outside of the top 20 that were locked in on time and was forced to take an ARCA/CRA owners points provisional from the 2013 season. She would begin the 150-lap main from the inside of the 11th row and would have her work cut out for her.
"We were working our way up when the clutch completely broke and ended our night right before the halfway break." The disappointed driver explained. "It was not the way we wanted to start our season. I just want to thank the Lorz Motorsports crew and Gary Balough for all their hard work." She stated.
Up next for Kern and her Ali Kern Motorsports / Lorz Motorsports team will be the Anderson Properties 125 Presented by Great Deals Savings Magazine on Saturday, April 26th at the fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval of Anderson Speedway (IN). In two appearances there in 2013, Kern picked up finishes of 10th and 16th respectively. Her 10th place finish back in this event on May 4th was her first career top 10 in the ARCA/CRA Super Series.
"I'm looking forward to running at Anderson Speedway. It's my kind of track with all of the trading paint that happens." The Buckeye State driver smiled. "You have to be completely focused and up on the wheel every lap. It's a fun track to run. As always, we want to represent our sponsor, CROWN BATTERY, the best that we can throughout the season." Kern ended.
Kern will be behind the wheel of a pair of black #28 Ali Kern Motorsports / Ford Fusions maintained by Lorz Motorsports throughout the rest of the 2014 racing season. Her machines will carry sponsorship decals and support throughout the year from CROWN BATTERY as well as Port City Racecars, Eibach Springs, K&N Filters, Prince Building Systems, Hybrid Haven, VanDoorn Racing Development and M.P.H. Promotions.
