Yorktown, Indiana (April 15, 2014) – The 2014 racing season officially started for the "Y-
Town Hustler", Rick Turner at the 2014 season opener for the ARCA/CRA Super Series
Powered by JEGS. The fast 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Toledo Speedway
in Toledo, Ohio hosted Border Wars I - 7-Up 150, which was also the first of two
combination races pitting the ARCA/CRA Super Series stars against the ARCA Midwest
Tour.
Turner, who made his 215th career start in the series to keep him tied for second all-time
with three-time series champion, Scott Hantz, who finished 10th, was shown one spot
behind Hantz in the finishing order at Toledo. The Yorktown, Indiana veteran came home
in 11th after a myriad of problems that plagued the Rick Turner Racing Team throughout
the weekend in the Buckeye State.
"The weekend didn't start so good. We had a couple problems in practice on Friday.
Broke a shifter and then on Saturday we hit the wall. Not how we wanted to start,"
Explained the 55-year-old. "But man we sure felt real good about the changes that we
made and drove all the way to 10th spot before we spun and had to go to the tail. Fought
back and just missed getting back into the top 10 by one spot. All in all it really was a
good weekend, especially against the field that was there." He added.
Now Turner and crew will prepare for the next race on the ARCA/CRA Super Series schedule, which is a little closer to home. The fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval of Anderson Speedway, located just 20 minutes southwest of the Rick Turner Racing shop in Yorktown, Indiana. The Anderson 125 marks the first of two appearances at the Central Indiana speed plant. Two races that Turner is really looking forward too.
"I think as a team we are getting better each time out and I'm looking forward to Anderson that's for sure." The Hoosier State veteran ended. Anderson is the site of one of Turner's three career ARCA/CRA Super Series victories, which came back on August 13, 2005 and feels that his home track, as well as near-by Winchester Speedway are the keys to his success in chasing after the ARCA/CRA Super Series championship.
While Rick Turner Racing continues preparations for Anderson and the next ARCA/CRA Super Series race, RTR has expanded its horizons. The team will be working with JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance competitor, 16-year-old Cole Rouse as the Fort Smith, Arkansas freshman will compete for the 2014 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title.
