DeWitt, Michigan (March 10, 2014) – It wasn't so long ago that Chad Finley was crossing
the start/finish line after racing in his first Snowball Derby. Finley would be the highest
finishing rookie of the 2013 Snowball Derby as the DeWitt, Michigan driver would cross
the stripe in 13th. A good accomplishment for running in his first Derby, but Finley was
hoping for much more against the talent-laden field that made up the 37 starters at Five
Flags Speedway.
So the off-season began for Chad Finley Racing the moment the hauler returned and was
unloaded from the trip back home from Florida. Since that time, CFR has been working
non-stop on the cars in the shop, the equipment within and everything else. No stone has
been left unturned and now the CFR team is ready for their first race of the 2014 racing
season.
The new season starts with a return trip to the 38th Running of the Rattler 250 at the fast
4/10s (0.400) mile semi-banked paved oval of South Alabama Speedway , located just 45
minutes north of the Alabama / Florida state line in Opp, Alabama on Friday-Sunday,
March 14-16th. In last year's edition of the race, Finley broke the Super Late Models
Track Record in Qualifying and led the first 100 laps of the 250-lap main before problems
dampened his efforts.
"We are really looking forward to getting back down to the Rattler this year. Last year we had such a strong car and led some laps before ignition troubles with around 100 to go." Explained the soon to be 22-year-old (On March 17th). We would love to get revenge after what happened to us last year. It's been a long off season. We've spent a lot of time developing new things since the Derby. We had such a good car down there, but our pit strategy just didn't work out. So we're looking forward to getting the year started off right and building momentum going into Toledo." He ended.
After the Rattler, the plans are for Finley for the remainder of the 2014 racing season to make select appearances in several high-profile Super Late Model races throughout the country with a primary focus on the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS while also racing in select events within the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance, ARCA Midwest Tour and the Southern Super Series.
Once the team returns home from Alabama, they will then begin preparing for the ARCA/CRA Super Series season open on Friday-Saturday, April 11-12th as the historic 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio hosts Border Wars I - 7-Up 150, a combination race pitting the ARCA/CRA Super Series head to head with their counterparts from the ARCA Midwest Tour.
During the 2013 racing season and in 16 total events, Finley collected two Wins, both in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance with those trips to victory lane coming at Columbus Motor Speedway (OH) on May 25th and at Springport Motor Speedway (MI) on September 14th. He also scored five top five finishes and eight top 10 showings. In addition, 11 of the 16 events resulted in at least a top 15 showing.
In addition to his race statistics, he also picked up two Track Records and three overall Fast Qualifier Awards during the year. His record breaking laps came at South Alabama Speedway (AL) on March 16th in his Super Late Model during the 37th annual Rattler 250 and at Columbus in the JEGS/CRA race which resulted in a clean sweep of that weekend. He also has a FQ Award in ARCA/CRA Super Series competition at Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) back on July 26th.
For the upcoming 2014 racing season, Finley's black & red #42 Port City Racecars Chevrolets will carry sponsorship decals throughout the season from Auto Value Parts Stores & Certified Service Centers as well as AutoParts2020.com, The Air Lift Company, XLT Engineering, NorthsideTowing.net, McGunegill Engine Performance, Five Star Racecar Bodies, Bassett Racing Wheels, Affordable Tire & Service, Bosch Spark Plugs, Hyperco Suspension, Maurer’s Textiles, Superior Racing Images and M.P.H.
