ARCA/CRA Super Series Teams Have a Lot on the Line in Sunday’s Winchester 400
Travis Braden Going for Second Straight Championship

Salem, Indiana (October 7, 2014) – Several ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by
JEGS Teams will have a lot on the line as the 2014 season winds down with the
43rd running of the famed Winchester 400 on the High Banks of Winchester
Speedway this coming Sunday. Sunday’s race is the 14th event of the season for
the ARCA/CRA Super Series, as the 18th season for the series comes to a close.
West Virginia University Engineering student Travis Braden is looking to claim his
second straight series Championship on Sunday. He comes into Sunday’s event
with a 25 point lead over second place Ross Kenseth. If neither driver earns
Qualifying Points on Saturday for the 400, then Braden needs to finish 13th or better
and he will repeat as Champion. If he can win the Championship, Braden would be
tied with Brian Ross with two series Championships behind series Championship
leaders Scott Hantz and Johnny VanDoorn with three series Championships.
Kenseth is looking to win his first ever series Championship. Braden won last year’s
Championship with Gary Estes as his Crew Chief, this year he has had Gary St.
Amant turning the wrenches. Braden is in a four way tie for most series wins in
2014, along with Daniel Hemric, Kyle Busch, and Brian Campbell.
Wes Griffith Jr. comes into Sunday’s event third in series points and leading the
Senneker Performance Rookie of the year points, but has no chance of catching
Braden or Kenseth in Championship points. Paul Shafer Jr. is currently fourth in
series points and second to Griffith in Rookie Points, he still has an outside shot at
passing Griffith in both positions, but he would have to get qualifying points to have a
chance at the rookie title, otherwise Griffith just needs to take the green flag to win
the Rookie of the Year title. Both drivers are also still seeking their first series win.
CRA all time starts leader Rick Turner comes into Sunday’s event fifth in series
points, he is only eight points behind Shafer. Turner has dreamed for years about
winning the Winchester 400, as he reaches the twilight of his career, he is still
hungry to get the famed Winchester Rifle Trophy.
There will be a full field of talent competing for the win in Sunday’s Winchester 400
as the best late model drivers in the country come to the High Banks to battle the
best of the ARCA/CRA Super Series in an event that has continued to be one of the
top asphalt racing traditions in the country. Alabama’s Augie Grill and Central
Indiana veteran racer Scott Neal are two of the latest names to be added to the entry
list. Other top entries besides the top five in series points include Eric Jones, Johnny
VanDoorn, Daniel Hemric, Bubba Pollard, Austin Theriault, Cody Coughlin, Anderson
Bowen, Donnie Wilson, Jeff Fultz, Brian Hoar, Mason Mingus, Stephen Nasse, Terry
Fisher Jr., Brandon Watson, Brandon Oakley, Dalton Sargeant, Will Gallaher, Matt
Hall, Allen Karnes, Eddie Van Meter, Brett Robinson and JJ Haley.
Things begin for the Winchester 400 Weekend with an optional load in, hauler parking and pit pass purchases on Thursday, October 9th from 3 to 8pm. Pits open on Friday, October 10th at 10am with rotating practice for all divisions beginning at 1pm. Qualifying for the Vore’s Touring Compacts, the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks New Star events and the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour 100 lap event will start at 5:40pm. Racing action will begin at 7pm with 8 lap heat races for the Vores Touring Compacts. The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Season Championship Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com will be up next. The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks 25 lap New Star features will follow. The Vores Touring Compacts 20 lap feature will cap off the nights racing action.
Pits open on Saturday, October 11th at 8am, rotating practice for all divisions will begin at 11am. Qualifying for the Top Speed Modifieds, Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks will begin at 3:30pm. EDCO Welding Pole Qualifying for the 43rd Annual Winchester 400 for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS will begin at 5pm. The race program will begin at 6pm with Top Speed Modifieds Last Chance races. The 50 lap Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Season Championship event will be up next, followed by the 25 lap Winchester 400 Last Chance race if needed. The Top Speed Modifieds 50 lap Run for the Gun will follow. The 50 lap Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stocks Season Championship event will cap off this huge night of racing. The Annual Winchester 400 Party in the Pavilion will start in immediately following the races.
On Sunday, October 12th the pits will open at 9am, there will be a short warm-up session for the ARCA/CRA Super Series cars at 11am. There will be an on track autograph session with all the 43rd Annual Winchester 400 drivers starting at 12:30. Opening ceremonies will begin at 1:30 pm with the 43rd Annual Winchester 400 taking the green flag at 2pm.
