Yorktown, Indiana (October 22, 2014) – After finishing fifth in the final ARCA/CRA
Super Series Powered by JEGS points standings, veteran Rick Turner was happy
despite the outcome of the 43rd Running of the Winchester 400 at his home track
of Winchester Speedway (IN). The 56-year-old proved he is still a viable contender
in one of the most competitive touring series' in the country and even though he
finished 24th in the 400.
"The Winchester 400 didn't end the way that we had hoped. But we had a real fast
car all weekend. (Crew Chief) Richard (Turner) did an outstanding job not just for 400
weekend, but all season long. This entire crew worked so hard and it is so
appreciated." Turner stated. "We were just riding when we got in a bad situation and
got put in the wall and ended with a lot of damage and could not continue. I want to
thank Mitch Smith (Auto Service) for coming in board for the 400 and I'm sure we will
work together again, hopefully pretty soon." The Yorktown, Indiana veteran smiled.
While the 2014 ARCA/CRA Super Series season is over, Turner may not be done
racing just yet. Tentative plans, sponsorship permitting, are for the Rick Turner
Racing Team to make the trip south to the 47th Annual Snowball Derby on
December 3-7th at Five Flags Speedway (FL). "This is something I've always
wanted to do, go race the Derby and I'm not getting any younger." Laughed the
Hoosier State veteran. "We've been competitive all season long and I really want to go down and see how we do. We need some sponsorship help to make it happen though." He added.
Turner finished fifth in the ARCA/CRA Super Series points standings as he recorded one top five finish, an impressive second place showing during the Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival at Winchester Speedway (IN) on September 1st. He also grabbed five top 10 finishes. His fifth place in the standings was his fifth top five in the final points in the last eight seasons. In series history, Turner is at or near the top of just about every major statistical category. In addition to sitting on top of the all-time career starts mark with 228, he is at least in the top five in five other major categories in the series 18-year history.
In addition to possibly running the Snowball Derby, Rick Turner Racing Driver Development is seeking a funded driver to compete in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance for the 2015 racing season. "There's going to come a time where I'm not going to do this anymore, but I want to stay involved also. We had fun this year with Cole Rouse and we look to continue to work with and develop another up and coming driver next year too." Turner ended.
Throughout the 2014 season, Turner's familiar #26 Rick Turner Racing / Ford Fusion carried sponsorship decals from Mitch Smith Auto Service as well as McGunegill Engine Performance. In addition, T.J. Racing Lubricants, G&G Oil of Indiana, AR Bodies, Schoenfeld Headers, Port City Racecars, Q.S. Components, A.J.'s High-Speed Graphics, Heartfelt Creations, and M.P.H. Promotions.
