Walker, Michigan (October 22, 2014) – Brandon Hermiller and his Josh Slade-led
H.S. Die/VISI-TST Ford Team are already full speed ahead in their preparations for
the 2015 racing season. The 21-year-old Michigan charger plans a full schedule at
Berlin Raceway in both Super Late Model and Outlaw Late Model competition.
Hermiller and crew also plan to hit the road when the season concludes at his home
track by entering several races on the ARCA/CRA Super Series tour.
“I guess you could say that we plan an all-out assault on our home track,” said
Hermiller, a former Pro Stock champion and Most Popular Driver at Berlin. “We will
be fielding cars in both the Supers and Outlaw divisions. I know it will be really
challenging to keep the momentum going that we established in the Supers this
season while also starting up an Outlaw program, but we are all looking forward to it.
“If we had both programs up and running this season, we could have raced in twice as many races at Berlin,” said Hermiller, who posted a record of three top-five finishes and six top-10’s in the seven regular season SLM races there this year. His incredible consistency helped him finish fifth in the division’s point standings. “We will also be able to compete with our Outlaw car in big races at Toledo and other tracks if we decide to do so.
“When the season is over at Berlin, we’re hoping to do some traveling with our Super Late Model racing with the CRA Super Series,” Hermiller added. “Our primary focus will be on all the races at home, but we really love competing with the CRA guys, especially on those tracks where they race on during the fall.
“We have learned over the last few seasons just how competitive the racing is at Berlin,” said Hermiller. “I’d stack it up against any other track in the country. They averaged 20 to 25 cars in both the Supers and the Outlaws, so we’re looking at it as double the challenge for next season.
“At the same time, we’re committed to having a fun season ahead in 2015,” said Hermiller, who mixed his time behind the wheel of his red No. 6 Ford with classroom time at Grand Rapids Community College and working in the shop this year. “We’ve put a huge priority on finishing my education and getting experience with the family business now, so I won’t be spending all the hours at the race shop like I have in the past.
“Josh and the guys do a great job preparing our cars and I have so much confidence that we’ll be ready to win some races next season,” said Hermiller, who is pursuing a degree in manufacturing engineering technology. “I think it will be really refreshing to be able to just focus on the driving part of racing next year. We’ll always maintain our serious attitude about our racing, but our approach will be a little different.
“It’s going to be really cool to finally get to race an Outlaw Late Model and I can’t wait for that opportunity,” said Hermiller. “We tested one at Berlin a couple of years ago and it was so much fun. I can’t wait till we’re able to be behind the wheel of an Outlaw trying to win some races.”
Hermiller, Slade and the H.S. Die Team have all their racing equipment details locked in for 2015 and think they are poised to turn more heads with the addition of the Outlaw program.
“We’ll be fielding the Port City Chassis again in the Supers,” said Hermiller. “We’ll run a Van Doorn front clip, which is a proven winning combination. Ernie Elliott will continue to build the engines for our template (SLM) cars.
“Over on the Outlaw side, we’ll have a Senneker Performance chassis,” Hermiller said of Terry Senneker’s noted Wayland, Mich., operation. “We’ll be getting our racing engines from Jamie Hamm (Bonefide Customs of Grand Rapids) and should be in great shape on that end.”
During the 2014 season, Hermiller’s No. 6 H.S. Die/VISI-TST Ford Fusion also carried sponsorship from River Hills Lodge, West End Body Shop, T.A.A.G. Tooling and Accessories Group, Stehouwer Frozen Foods and Beaver Research Company.
