Quincy, Illinois (July 18, 2013) – After spending the last three weekends on the dirt racing
his United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) DIRTcar Modified at a wide variety of events,
primarily with the Summit Racing Equipment UMP DIRTcar Modifieds Nationals, which is
a marathon 31 races in 38 days venture that travels in support of the UMP Summer
Nationals Hell Tour for UMP DIRTcar Super Late Models, Jake Griffin is ready to get back
on the pavement and resume his quests in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by
Chevrolet Performance.
Although the 14-year-old did not race in every event on the dirt within the Modifieds
Nationals, he did get plenty of track time during a three-week lull in the JEGS/CRA
Schedule. He's now 25th in the country in the UMP DIRTcar Racing Series Modifieds
National Points Standings.
In his last pavement race, he posted a career high third place finish in the Touchtone
Energy 100 Presented by Focus Eyewear & JEGS.com at Salem Speedway in Salem,
Indiana back on June 22nd. Since then it's been all dirt for the Quincy, Illinois teenager,
but now he's ready to resume the fight for the 2013 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the
Year title.
"We're doing really good in points now coming off of our third place at Salem. We have the rookie lead and are sitting sixth in overall standings. Really looking forward to the remainder of the races this year," The Prairie State teenager remarked. This is my first full year of asphalt racing ever and I think were making good strides and we aren’t too far off from a checkered flag." He added.
"With me getting more laps and my guys doing as great as they have been doing I’m excited for what is to come out of our team for the last half of the JEGS/CRA Season." He continued. "I want to thank my crew and all of my sponsors for all the hard work and support that they have put in this year so far."
The Anderson 100 Presented by JEGS.com is next on the 2013 JEGS/CRA calendar on Friday, July 19th at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana which is part of the Stoops Freightliner Redbud 300 Weekend at the fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval. Like every other track on the schedule, Anderson is another track that Griffin won't even see until pulling into the pits on race weekend.
"I don’t really have an idea what the track is like except for that it is small." Laughed Griffin. "I think we will run pretty good there, its (Crew Chief) Scott's (Neal) home track so we should have a good starter setup. I’m going to have to get used to the car again since we have ran so much dirt lately." He continued.
"But I’m looking forward to going to another new track and getting more important laps under my belt. With (2012 Snowball Derby Winner) Erik Jones running Scott's other car I may be able to learn a little off of him, though not very much older than me he sure does have a lot more laps on this asphalt stuff then I do." He ended.
For the rest of the 2013 racing season, Griffin’s fleet of machines, whether it’s the JEGS/CRA car or the UMP DIRTcar Modified will carry the #08 and sponsorship decals from Sun Drop Soda as well as Phantom Racing Gear, Central Metals Recycling, McPikes Pawn Shop, McGunegill Engine Performance, Powdercoat Plus, Green Smart Builders, Microtel Inns and Suites, Big Muddy Towing and Recovery and M.P.H.
