Quincy, IL (June 27, 2013) – Jake Griffin has been competing for the Howie Lettow
Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet
Performance and is the current Freshman points leader five races into the 13 points events
schedule. Now with a three-week break in between JEGS/CRA races, the 14-year-old has
put the Template bodied Late Model away for now and has brought his UMP DIRTcar
Modified out for some action.
"We've got a ton of dirt racing planned with the Summit Racing Equipment UMP DIRTcar
Modifieds Nationals." Stated the Quincy, Illinois teenager who will join one of the most
grueling tours in the country. 31 races in 39 days and Griffin will hit the heart of the series
with events all over the Midwestern United States. "We've got races this Friday, Saturday
and Sunday and then after a day off, we're going straight through the following Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and back to Sunday again! The more laps the
better." He added.
"I sincerely have to thank all of my sponsors, and also we're very proud to announce our
new sponsor; Sun Drop Soda." He added. "There are still spots open on all of the JGR racecars, if you want your business on a winning team and to be seen by many contact us today." Griffin promoted.
In Griffin's last JEGS/CRA race, the Touchtone Energy 100 Presented by Focus Eyewear & JEGS.com at the historic 0.555 mile high-banked paved oval of Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana on June 22nd, it was an adventurous day to say the least for the Prairie State teenager, but in the end and despite some mechanical problems, he would walk out of Southern Indiana with a career high third place showing and he also retook the lead in the chase for the 2013 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title.
"Last week at Salem was really up and down, and it was only a one day show. We started off with the first session of the day we scraped a hole in the oil pan, the crew spent the whole first practice fixing it, we got it ready for the second practice and it did it again," He explained. "After it scraped that whole back open, I truly thought we were done. But the boys never gave up on it, Dewaine McGunegill (From McGunegill Engine Performance) came over and was a big help also, and CRA was kind enough to give us time to get ready for Qualifying."
Despite limited track time on the fast and abrasive 0.555 mile high-banked paved oval Griffin timed in 11th fastest and started the 100-lap main from the inside of the sixth row. "The first few laps we went backwards because I was just saving, then we watched everybody wreck and found ourselves sitting in the top five. We made a few passes and wound up in third, we were passing for second and made contact and fell back to third." He continued.
"I can't thank my crew and Dewaine (McGunegill) enough for not giving up and working their butts off to get the car fixed." Griffin appreciatively stated. "Congratulations again to Cody (Coughlin) on another win. He's dialed in right now and is going to be tough to beat." He ended.
For the remainder of the 2013 racing season, Griffin’s fleet of machines, whether it’s the JEGS/CRA car or the UMP DIRTcar Modified will carry the #08 and sponsorship decals from Sun Drop Soda as well as Phantom Racing Gear, Central Metals Recycling, McPikes Pawn Shop, McGunegill Engine Performance, Powdercoat Plus, Green Smart Builders, Microtel Inns and Suites, Big Muddy Towing and Recovery and M.P.H.
