Williamsburg, Kentucky (April 25, 2013) – After not being on the race track since January 27th during SpeedFest 2013 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia, Jerrod Foley has been anxiously waiting for the official start of the 2013 racing season within the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. The wait is now over and the frequent trips north from Williamsburg, Kentucky are set to begin for the JLJ Motorsports Team.
The third year Salem, Indiana based series will kick off their 2013 campaign on a special Sunday afternoon, April 28th at the 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval of Springport Motor Speedway, located north of Jackson and south of Lansing in Springport, Michigan with the running of the Cabin Fever 100 Presented by JEGS.com. In his only other appearance at Springport, he finished seventh and is hoping for improvement upon that finish to kick off the new year.
“We are ready to go for Springport. We’re very excited to open the point’s season there. We had a very good car there last year which was our first time seeing the track.” Stated the 21-year-old Blue Grass State driver. “Our goals for the season are to finish every race with no mechanical errors and also a top 10 each and every race at least. We believe if we can do that, then we will have a good chance at running for the championship at the end of the year.” He added.
“We know in order to do this we must be consistently in top finishing positions and finish all the races, that’s what hurt us last year. If we had not had the couple crash outs and electrical trouble at Illiana and hood flying up with just a few laps to go at Plymouth, I do believe we would have been in top three in points.” He continued. “I was happy though with sixth in points considering the level of competition in the series. To be able to contend for a possible win at this level on our budget is quite an accomplishment in itself. We are looking forward to a solid 2013 season and also getting to see all the racing folks, competitors and officials.” Foley said.
During the 2012 racing season within JEGS/CRA including both non-points races at Watermelon Capital on January 29th and more recently on October 27th, Foley recorded three top five finishes with a season high of a third place finish twice with the first on May 26th at Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio and the second one in the last race at Watermelon Capital. He also collected nine top 10 finishes and 12 top 15s. In addition, he also accumulated an impressive Eight Feature Wins spread out between his two local tracks of Corbin Speedway in Corbin, Kentucky as well as Rockcastle Speedway in Mount Vernon, Kentucky.
The 2013 season is actually two races old for Foley as in addition to his 12th place finish in Georgia in January, he also participated in the Season Opener at Corbin back on April 13th and swept the entire night by setting fast time, winning his heat race and then dominating en route to the Feature Win.
“We’ll also run some stuff with our new Super Late Model that we have in addition to our two JEGS/CRA cars. We’ll race some local stuff at Corbin on our off weeks too. Our racing program truly is a family affair with Mom as spotter, travel agent and chef, me as the driver and my Dad as crew chief, truck driver and everything else. It does feel good to get the season started with a solid run at SpeedFest and a win at Corbin, maybe we can carry some momentum going to Springport.” He ended.
For the rest of the 2013 racing season, Foley’s Black #04 JLJ Motorsports / Port City Racecars Chevrolet Impala will carry sponsorship decals from Quality Care Auto as well as Manton Financial Services, Imprint Warehouse Screen Printing, DAL Fishing Jigs, Advance Auto Parts, Baker Performance Parts, M.P.H.
