Lanesville, IN (April 12, 2013) – Deuser Motorsports’ preparation for the 2013 season is in full swing, with two private tests completed and another planned before the first event in the Jegs/CRA All-Stars Tour presented by Chevrolet.

Salem Speedway in Salem, Ind. was the site of the first test for the team and their driver, 15-year-old Corey Deuser of Lanesville, Ind.

“That test went really well,” reported crew chief Jim Robinson. “We got pretty fast.

He explained that ARCA driver Will Kimmel of Sellersburg, Ind., who has extensive experience on the historic half-mile high banks at Salem, was on hand to serve as a driver coach and help with the test.

“Corey got the car down to 17.44 and ran steadily in the mid .40s and low .50s as we got the car sorted out,” Robinson said. “We pushed him, and he responded.” He added, “The test brought out some flaws in our setup. As we got the car tuned in, Corey went faster, and the faster he went, the more we had to tune on it.”

The team’s second test was at I-44 Speedway near Lebanon, Mo., a 3/8-mile banked oval where Corey won a 100-lap feature last year in one of his first outings driving a late model.

When he won that race, he qualified in the 14.80s. The test  was about the same, with Corey turning a fast lap of 14.77.

“We felt like we were doing better,” Robinson said, “but we don’t think that’s enough. We’re going back over there in the first part of May to test again, and we’ll be racing there in the middle of that month. I think we need to get down into the 17.20.”

Robinson noted that the team’s Baby Grand driver, Jacob Blair of Kansas City, Mo. also took part in the test at I-44 Speedway in the No. 14 Chevrolet previously driven by Corey Deuser.

“The best he had ever qualified there before was about 18 seconds flat, I believe,” the crew chief said. “He got down to 16.68 this time. We got him driving down into the corner with some help from Corey, and he got faster on each run. He’s going to do just fine.”

Following the test in Missouri, Robinson took the Focus Eyewear Ford No. 14 to a chassis dynamometer for some static testing.

“With the readings we got there and the tuning we were able to do,” he reported, “we picked up almost 20 horsepower, so that makes us feel better about the engine.”

The 2013 Jegs/CRA All-Stars Tour season opener is the Cabin Fever 100, set for Sunday, April 28 at Springport Motor Speedway in Springport, Mich. Springport is also a 3/8-mile oval.

“We’ve got permission to test there in the week of the race, because Corey is a rookie,” Robinson explained, “and we’ll take part in the open test there as well.”
