Quincy, Illinois (November 6, 2013) – After becoming the youngest driver in NASCAR Whelen All-
American Series history to Win a Feature, 14-year-old Jake Griffin added another milestone to his
busy 2013 racing season. He became the youngest driver in Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville's long
and storied history to Win a Pole when the Quincy, Illinois teenager out-qualified the 27-car field in the
Pro Late Models portion of the 29th Running of the All-American 400 in the Music City.
Griffin would then back up his qualifying effort at the fast 0.596 mile high-banked paved oval with a solid
fifth place finish in the Pro Late Models 100-lap Feature, which served as a companion event to the
300-Lap headlining Southern Super Series main event. After Griffin drew a four for an inversion, he
would start the century grind from the outside of the fourth row in the race that served as the Season
Championship event for the Nashville, Tennessee speed plant's premier weekly division.
"The team and I knew that there was one more chance this year to put down another good run to finish
out the season." Stated the Quincy, Illinois teenager. "This was my only third race working with Kevin
Crider and I didn’t really know what to expect going into Nashville with the different tires we were on.
Once we made a couple laps though I couldn’t really tell a difference." He added.
"The car was good right off the trailer and all we had to do was fine tune on it the rest of the weekend. I’ve never really been that good at qualifying and I knew that was something I had to do to be in competition for the win the race," The 14-year-old (Soon to be 15 on November 16th) continued. "When I ran my first lap I knew it would be a throwaway, the final lap though was perfect. I really drove it down deep into the corner and it stuck, I knew it was going to be a good lap when I came off of four. That was really a confidence booster for our whole team.
After he drew a four for an inversion, Griffin's #08 P.A.D.D. (People Against Distracted Driving) / Chevrolet would start the 100-lap main from the outside of the second row. "It could have been a lot worse, but I knew we had a good car and it was just going to be about patience." Griffin continued. "There was a lot of big names there and the locals we really stout. So to get a top five out of that race and be the highest finishing non local felt pretty good. All in all it was a really good run for us for my first time at Nashville." He added.
During the 2013 racing season, Griffin's main focus was the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance while also competing on a limited basis with the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS as well as at Lebanon I-44 Speedway (MO). The majority of Griffin's starts in 2013 however were on the dirt in his United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) DIRTcar Modified as well as select appearances in his UMP DIRTcar Super Late Model. Overall in 2013, Griffin made a whopping 80 starts between dirt and pavement during the year.
Griffin’s fleet of machines, whether it’s the JEGS/CRA car, the ARCA/CRA entry or the UMP DIRTcar Modified will carry the #08 and sponsorship decals from Sun Drop Soda as well as P.A.D.D.
