Williamsburg, Kentucky (October 9, 2013) – After finishing sixth in the final 2012 points
standings, Jerrod Foley's goal for the 2013 campaign in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour
Presented by Chevrolet Performance was to crack the top five in the final points tallies.
With a single point's race remaining, the Williamsburg, Kentucky driver is in position to
control his own destiny in terms of accomplishing that feat.
The Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com is on Friday, October 11th at the legendary
and fast 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Winchester Speedway in Winchester,
Indiana which kicks off the 42nd running of the Winchester 400 weekend at the famed
Eastern Indiana oval. Going into the race, Foley is tied with Jake Griffin for that coveted
fifth place in the points with Dominique Van Wieringen trailing the two by just 16 markers.
So the goal is simple; finish ahead of the two rookies and fifth place in the final points is
his.
" After the race at Lucas Oil Raceway (On September 22nd) we found some big problems
inside the rear end that was causing the car to drive the way it was and we hope to have it
fixed and are super fast for this weekend coming up at Winchester." The 21-year-old driver
stated. "We've had the goal all season long to finish top five in the points and here we are
at the last point's race with the chance to do just that. I'm excited and can't wait to get to
the high-banks." He added.
The last time Foley and his family owned J.L.J. Motorsports Team was in action, it was in the form of 'double-duty' at LOR as they races in both the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour race as well as the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS headliners. Finishes of 22nd in the JEGS/CRA race due to rear end issues with his crate motored car was followed by a 12th place effort in the ARCA/CRA Super Series race.
"Going into Indy we were very excited, We worked on both cars constantly in practice, Qualifying came around and the JEGS/CRA car held together for two laps to time in ninth quick, our best ever start at LOR. As for the ARCA/CRA car, he qualified a disappointing 23rd. "Luckily we was able to work on the Super car after qualifying and even take it out for five laps, we threw everything at the car to tighten it up and was still loose and almost unresponsive to any adjustments we made to the car. We then found a problem, fixed it and wish for the best." He continued.
In the JEGS race, only a single caution flag flew during the 100-lap event. " The more laps that went down, the slower and slower the car was getting, getting extremely loose, we even made a pit stop under green at one point to try and tighten the car, which it did but again fell off terribly just like before." He explained. Foley would come away with a disappointing 22nd place finish.
By starting the JEGS/CRA portion of the weekend at LOR, Foley broke the all-time record for most consecutive starts in JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour history with 28 as he is now within the top 10 in nearly every statistical category in JEGS/CRA history.
In the ARCA/CRA event, Foley was involved in an incident with another car and then was an innocent bystander in the massive 11-car pile-up on the ensuing restart. "I could not have been more proud of Dad (Jim Foley) as a crew chief and the car for performing how it was. In that big accident in turn one, I slowed as much as possible before contact, and we hit just hard enough to take off a fender but do no other damage to the car. Back out on the track with no fender and very little down force we just did what we could to hold on to the car and pass as many as we could cleanly which paid off and got us an 12th place finish." He ended.
Heading into Winchester for the JEGS/CRA portion of the Winchester 400 weekend, Foley is tied for fifth in points. In 12 total JEGS/CRA points races during the 2013 racing season including the non-points race at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia back on January 27th which was part of SpeedFest 2013, Foley has one top five finish, which was a season high fifth place effort at Springport Motor Speedway in Springport, Michigan on September 14th to go with four top 10 showings.
