Midlothian, Illinois (September 19, 2013) – With the 2013 Rookie of the Year title in the
ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS now in sight for Ali Kern, the Fremont, Ohio
driver is focusing solely on that with the chance to clinch the outright freshman title this
Saturday-Sunday, September 21-22nd at Lucas Oil Raceway in Clermont, Indiana during
the T.J. Racing Lubricants 100 Presented by Quarter Master. The headlining event of the
McGunegill Engine Performance CRA Fall Brawl 2013 Presented by P.A.D.D. (People
Against Distracted Driving).
With a solid finish at the immaculate 0.686 mile progressively banked paved oval located
west of Indianapolis, Kern would not only clinch the 2013 freshman honors, but can also
move a step closer to a second place overall finish in the ARCA/CRA Super Series. With
points leader, Travis Braden out of reach, the 20-year-old is now locked into a dogfight with
CRA veterans, Rick Turner and Kenny Tweedy in an effort to keep the 2013 Overall Runner-
Up honors.
"It's just a dream come true to be currently leading in the ROTY contest and to be tied for
second place in points overall with a couple of real veteran drivers." The Buckeye State
freshman remarked. "We'll be ready for LOR this weekend and I look forward to having another great weekend of racing." She added.
Car Owner, Mike Lorz added; "We're looking forward to going back and having a good run at LOR. We have a couple of points races left and hope to finish on a good note at both places. We struggled last time we were in Indy, so we need to pick up our game and get a top ten this weekend and then get ready for the 400." He stated.
In her last race at the uniquely shaped 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-banked paved oval of Kil-Kare Raceway, located southeast of Dayton in Xenia, Ohio on September 15th for the Buckminn's D&D Harley-Davidson / Oakley Blacktop 125, Kern, despite never racing at the track located in her home state, emerged from the 125-lap event with another solid top five finish as she was on the podium in third.
"First I want to thank everyone at Kil-Kare Raceway for putting on an awesome show. The staff was very professional and really made us feel welcome. That was a great venue to run an ARCA/CRA event at." She continued when reflecting on her performance. "It was a little intimidating going into last weekend because we were one of the few drivers who had never competed there before, but we had so many people helping and supporting us that it made our third place podium finish even more special."
She then continued; "It's definitely a very challenging track to race especially when I was up against current and past track champions and really talented local drivers. I can't say enough about how proud I am of our crew last weekend. I knew I had to give 110% on the track to show our team how much I appreciated all the hard work they put in to prepare for Kil-Kare."She appreciatively added. "We certainly put on a great show for all the fans and I was proud to bring home a P3 finish. Again, I was honored to bring home all the Rookie of the race awards too." She ended.
Her proud Car Owner added; "Last week at Kil-Kare was great weekend for us finishing third, that was Awesome. Ali and the entire crew did heck of a job and Mike Kern did awesome job spotting complete team effort that’s how you succeed in this sport." He ended.
Kern is now tied for second in the overall season long points chase with Turner and just 23 markers ahead of Tweedy in the battle between second through fourth. She also has a comfortable 76 point advantage over Brandon Oakley in the chase for the 2013 Rookie of the Year title and does have an outside shot at wrapping up that title depending on her performance at LOR.
Overall in ARCA/CRA Super Series competition, she has with three top five finishes, which were both of her runner-up showings from the Michigan Doubleheader Weekend on August 16-17th at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan and the next night at Flat Rock Speedway in Flat Rock, Michigan.
