Grand Rapids, Michigan (September 18, 2013) – It was only a matter of time before Brian
Campbell and the KBR Development Team figured out what had been ailing the team
throughout the 2013 racing season. With just a single victory at the Mid-September mark
of the season, Campbell knew it would only be a matter of time before he and his veteran
crew figured things out and make a return trip to victory lane.
The 1/2 (0.500) mile semi-banked paved oval of Illiana Motor Speedway, located east of
the Illinois / Indiana state line and south of Chicago, Illinois in Schererville, Indiana was the
next race on the 2013 schedule for Team KBR; the 52nd annual Tony Bettenhausen
Memorial 100 for the tracks weekly Super Late Models division. At the end of the night,
Campbell's familiar #20 KBR Development / Ford Fusion would cross the start / finish line
first to Win.
“A flat tire got me last year,” Campbell said. “I love this track and every year we come
down here to test. It just seems that we don’t get down here enough (to race). This race
has been on our calendar all year.” The Wyoming, Michigan veteran stated after his Win. "This is a tough field down here for a weekly show and they didn't let me rest for one minute, even after we got out to the big lead." He added.
After timing in seventh quick out of 36 teams on hand, Campbell took the lead on lap nine, but on a lap 27 restart, three competitors were able to sneak by to take over. The 34-year-old wasn't to be deterred however as he went to the outside lane and passed all three machines to retake the lead on lap 35, just eight laps later, and pull away to a $3,000 payday.
"This is a big win for this entire team. We've been struggling all season long trying to find what's been missing. I think we're ok now," Campbell ended as he and his team prepare to defend their race win in the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS portion of the CRA Fall Brawl 2013 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Clermont, Indiana on Saturday-Sunday, September 21-22nd.
Team KBR Car Owner and part-time driver, Mike Bursley is still in the midst of his promoting duties at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan during the tracks four dirt shows in the month of September, which will keep him out of the driver's seat for the time being. Once the 2013 schedule is complete in Marne, Michigan, the 30-year-old from Holland, Michigan has hopes of making a couple of appearances in some end of the season special events.
