Grand Rapids, Michigan (August 29, 2013) – As the calendar reads August and with the
Labor Day Weekend fast approaching, KBR Development is gearing up for the rest of the
2013 racing season with several special events on the horizon for the patriarch of Team
KBR, Brian Campbell, as well as Team Owner and Berlin Raceway Promoter, Mike
Bursley.
On Wednesday, August 14th, both drivers entered the Boyne Machine Shootout, now an
integral part of the Kalamazoo Klash for Template Super Late Models at the fast 3/8s
(0.375) mile high-banked paved oval of Kalamazoo Speedway in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
For the first time since joining the team, Campbell would actually race against his car
owner, Bursley in the same event. 20 cars were on hand as Campbell Qualified third
quick while Bursley, in his first appearance at the fast Kalamazoo oval, timed in 11th
quick.
At the end of the day, it would be Bursley who would win the unofficial battle of KBR cars
as the Holland, Michigan driver would advance six position to finish in the top five in fifth
while Campbell dropped out with mechanical issues and was shown 14th in the results.
"We had a great car in qualifying and practice and something let go and got progressively
worse during the race so we called it a day." Campbell explained.
As for Bursley, he enjoyed his first time at Kalamazoo and only his second race of the 2013 racing season. "I just sort of bided my time and used some patience and luck to get up to fifth at the end." The 30-year-old explained. It was a pretty hard fought race." He added.
On Saturday, August 17th, the decision was made to file a late entry for the 7-Up 125 for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS at Flat Rock Speedway in Flat Rock, Michigan. For Campbell, it was his first ever appearance at the fast 1/4 (0.250) mile semi-banked paved oval. "I had only been there one other time to watch my Dad (Fred Campbell) race." He laughed.
"After Qualifying second quick out of 20 cars, the inversion draw would put him on the inside of the fourth row. By lap 41, Campbell had grabbed the lead and was trying to pull away from the rest of the field. Fast Qualifier, Travis Braden caught him late in the race, a thrilling battle ensued before contact between both drivers sent both to the back of the field with just three laps to go. Campbell would rebound for a seventh place finish.
"It's a shame to come out and lead all of those laps and sort of dominate the event and then get put to the tail at the end," The 34-year-old offered. "But it is what it is we will come back and do it again. The car was just great though, absolutely on rails." He ended.
The next event on the 2013 schedule for Campbell will be the Budweiser Super Late Model Season Championships at his home track of Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan on Saturday, August 31st. As for Bursley, his race track, Berlin will be getting covered in dirt after the races on the 31st as the track moves into the month of September with four shows on the dirt track. Once the Dirt Track portion of his tracks' schedule is complete, Bursley hopes to make a couple of more appearances at some end of the year events in the Midwest.
For the rest of the 2013 racing season, Campbell’s familiar white #20 KBR Development / Ford Fusion will carry sponsorship decals from McGunegill Engine Performance as well as Port City Racecars, Penske Racing Shocks, Handy Wacks Products and M.P.H.
