Beavercreek, Ohio (July 31, 2013) – Brandon Oakley was hoping to gain some ground on
Current Rookie of the Year Points Leader, Ali Kern in his quest for the 2013 freshman title
in the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS as he and his Brandon Oakley Racing
Team made the trip west for the Night of the Stars 100 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Clermont,
Indiana. That part of the mission was accomplished as the Beavercreek, Ohio driver
finished three spots ahead of Kern, gaining valuable points in the process.
"Not real satisfied with finishing in 17th, but with the talent that was there and the fact
that we were the highest finishing rookie in the field, we'll take it." The 19-year-old driver
stated. "We just have to keep chipping away at her (Ali Kern) rookie points lead and
hopefully we'll be there battling to the end with her when the Winchester 400 comes up in
October." He added.
Oakley and crew won't have time to rest as the third race in three weekends, and third
race out of six consecutive over a five-week span is this Saturday, August 3rd as the
famed 7/16s (0.437) mile semi-banked paved oval of Berlin Raceway, located west of
Grand Rapids in Marne, Michigan hosts the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS
for the second time in 2013 with the rescheduled Tri-State Car Collector Appraising 125
Presented by T.A.A.G. Incorporated.
This event was rained out on its original date of May 11th and rescheduled as part of 'Duck Dynasty Night' at the track as the popular television stars from the hit series on the A&E Channel will be there signing autographs and serving as Grand Marshals for the race.
"Definitely hope to do better than the last time we were there. That place is tough on anyone and the local drivers there are real strong," The Buckeye State teenager continued. "(Crew Chief) Gary St. Amant has been around that place a bunch and hopefully I can learn a little something and we'll be right up there with the top guys." He ended.
Oakley is second in the Rookie of the Year title chase, now only 30 markers back of Kern in the freshman title chase. Overall in the ARCA/CRA Super Series in 2013, Oakley remains fifth in the season long points chase those same 30 points back for the fourth position. His season high finish is an 11th in the non-points SpeedFest 2013 back on January 27th at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia.
