Midlothian, Illinois (July 17, 2013) – The goal all along for the 2013 racing season within
the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS season for Ali Kern and Lorz Motorsports
was, and still is, the 2013 Rookie of the Year title. When the season started, Kern along-
with 15-year-old Anderson Bowen and 19-year-old Brandon Oakley were the three
freshman contenders vying for the coveted title. Now it's down to a two person race for the
rest of the year.
Bowen will miss four to six weeks due to an off track injury leaving Kern and Oakley as
they last two standing for the rookie title. It's a challenge that Kern relishes heading into
the next event on the schedule; the Stoops Freightliner Redbud 300 at the fast 1/4 (0.250)
mile high-banked paved oval of Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana on Saturday,
July 20th. This event also serves as the second leg of the $100,000 JEGS Triple Crown
Series.
"We're really looking forward to running the Redbud 300 this weekend at Anderson
Speedway in the Crown Battery sponsored Port City race car. It's going to be all about
strategy and we're planning on seeing the #28 finish up front on Saturday." Kern stated.
"We finished P7 at Winchester Speedway a few weeks ago with just a tire rub on the car, so we're ready for a string of good luck to keep me in the hunt for the Rookie of the Year honors." The 20-year-old added.
"I'm feeling pretty confident our partnership with Lorz Motorsports will produce some great finishes the rest of the season." The Fremont, Ohio native continued. " The crew at the shop are installing my cool box this week because I'm pretty sure I'm going to need it for this race." She laughed.
Lorz Motorsports Car Owner, Mike Lorz is very optimistic about his drivers' chances this weekend as well; "We are ready for the Redbud 300 this weekend. It's such a prestigious race and the car Is ready to go and so is the entire Lorz Motorsports team. I would to thank them for their hard work this year as we get ready for five straight weeks of racing so we look forward to the challenge. " He stated.
Lorz was especially proud of his driver in the last ARCA/CRA race at Winchester Speedway back on June 29th; "She did an awesome job at Winchester and I think we should have a good car for her to race to the front at Anderson," The veteran Car Owner continued. "The big thing with this race is to take care of the car and be there at the end. It’s a lot of laps around that place, so finishing is main priority. She's done an excellent job this year we just need to keep up the good work by all." He ended.
Four races into the ARCA/CRA Super Series season, Bowen does lead the Rookie Points Standings by 12 markers over Kern who has a 20 point advantage over Oakley. Bowen will lose his lead over both competitors when the green flag flies in the Redbud 300. Overall, Kern is fifth in the season long points chase with two top 10 finishes including her season high of seventh at Winchester. Her other top 10 is a 10th in the series' last race at Anderson back on May 4th.
