Midlothian, Illinois (May 8, 2013) – When 19-year-old Ali Kern and Lorz Motorsports teamed up for the 2013 racing season. The primary goal for the Fremont, Ohio freshman was, and still is, the 2013 Rookie of the Year title in the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS. The entire team knew that there work would be cut out for them with the likes of 15-year-old Anderson Bowen and 18-year-old Brandon Oakley also battling every week with Kern for the same title.
So far in two events within the 2013 racing season, its Kern and Bowen tied on top of the Rookie Points Standings with Oakley only eight markers back with still a long way to go in the current season. But Kern and the Lorz team are very optimistic about their chances as she knows it’s going to be a long battle that could potentially come down to the last race; the prestigious Winchester 400 at Winchester Speedway in October.
“We are really excited about our partnership with Lorz Motorsports and so far all of our hard work has paid off. “ Kern remarked as her and the Lorz team prepare for race #3, the Tri-State Collector Car Appraising 125 Presented by T.A.A.G. Incorporated at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan. “We've had really fast cars the past two races and I'm looking forward to a good run this weekend at Berlin. I've raced my Modified there twice but never a Late Model. My Birthday is the 11th (race day) so I'm thinking that would make a perfect 20th Birthday present.” She added.
“Lorz Motorsports team has been working very hard this week to prepare for Berlin Raceway with Ali.” Added Lorz Motorsports Car Owner, Mike Lorz. “Berlin is tough track for new drivers it takes running there few times to get the hang of it and sometimes it may take more runs there to get it down.” He added.
In the last event, the Sell It Again Sam 125 Presented by Great Deals Magazine at the fast ¼ mile of Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana, Kern, the 2011 Champion in the now defunct TBRA Series, started the race ninth and overcame an adventurous race in Central Indiana to post a 10th place showing. “Last week at Anderson we decided to run the new Port City Racecars crate motor car hoping we would have more tire at the end of the race than the Supers.” She explained.
After starting from the inside of the fifth row, she steadily worked her way up to the sixth spot until a right front tire blew out on her #28 Gorilla Glue / Ford. “I worked my way back up and the Port City car was really rolling, a little too well when I unintentionally spun another driver out. I just didn't have enough time to recover with only three laps left. We were really happy winning the Rookie of the race award and a top 10 finish.” She ended.
“We had a good run at Anderson. The whole team has been working hard and If we keep giving her good cars and working hard as a team, she will run up front.” Lorz offered. “We have proved that with our past drivers. I always look at the big picture for young drivers. Finish the race is the most important! when you do that you get to complete all the laps and you gain more experience, sitting behind the wall will get you nowhere.” He ended.
Kern spent the 2012 racing season competing in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance where she recorded a 10th place finish in the final points standings with one top five finish, a fourth place showing at Shady Bowl Speedway in DeGraff, Ohio. For Lorz, they had Nate Caruth behind the wheel of their ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS machine and the Ames, Iowa driver finished seventh overall in the point’s standings and was second in the Rookie of the Year battle.
