Wheeling, WV (April 18, 2013) – After the postponement of the ARCA Racing Series Powered by JEGS race at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana from April 13th to May 4th, the new 2013 Season Opener for the Salem, Indiana based series will be one of the biggest events in the country; The Border Wars 7-Up 150 on Saturday, April 20th at the fast ½ (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio.
19-year-old Travis Braden, the reigning ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS Rookie of the Year, is looking forward to heading up to the famed Buckeye State oval and representing ARCA/CRA as he and his counterparts will go head to head with the ARCA Midwest Tour for the first time ever. The Wheeling, West Virginia driver will be going armed with the colors of West Virginia University, where he is a student at the schools’ College of Engineering and Mineral Resources as he is pursuing a degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering.
“We’re really excited to be displaying the WVU colors on the #01 machine. We’re so happy to put this deal together with the University and just in time for one of the biggest races in the country,” The Mountaineer State driver remarked. “I’m hoping all the work I’ve been doing at school will enhance my career in motorsports. The knowledge gained in class really helps me understand the mechanics and handling of the car and enhances my communication with the team. “He added. (NOTE: The new color scheme will be revealed when the car comes off the trailer in Toledo.)
Braden’s last time on the race track was at the headlining event of SpeedFest 2013; the SpeedFest 200, a non-points race for the ARCA/CRA Super Series on Sunday, January 27th as he led the first 34 laps against a stacked field from all over the country. Unfortunately, Braden left Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia with a disappointing 26th place finish after an overheating issue sidelines the #01 Braden’s A-1 Towing & Collision/A-1 Service Center / Chevrolet. Now Braden and his Travis Braden Motorsports team have been hard at work getting ready for the regular season within the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS.
“With a new season about to start, a lot of things are in my focus. I've been to most of the tracks on this year's schedule now and know what to expect, so I want to go into each week with a plan. Like always, the goal is to try to win the race.” Stated Braden. ”Toledo is fast and can really be tough mentally and physically. We’ll definitely have a car capable of running up front, but my focus is going to be keeping the car in one piece until the last 50 laps. A good qualifying effort is going to be needed, especially with 50-some teams entered.” He added.
Braden is coming into the year with high expectations not only placed on himself, but by many on-lookers within the motorsports industry. “I'm very excited about how my team has evolved in the past two years and the knowledge and skill we have all gained.” He continued. “My guys are getting smarter, and it’s been showing with much better speed on the tracks. A lot of changes have been made over the winter and we're ready to put it all to the test.”
“As for a championship run, who knows; I’m personally not worried about it. If it is meant to be it will come, sometimes putting too much emphasis on points can turn a season the wrong direction.” Braden explained. “If we are in a good position towards the end of the year I will definitely start to think about it more, but until we get some races in I don't plan to pay much attention to it.”
As for the remainder of the 2013 schedule; "Our primary focus is on the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS. We’re very happy that JEGS has stepped up their support. They are a great asset to short track racing.” He added. “We’re going to try and make it to some of the big super late shows this year in addition to ARCA/CRA too. The Milwaukee Mile race and a few others that looked like a lot of fun last year are some that we may try to get involved in this season.” He ended.
In the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS during the 2012 racing season, Braden was the Rookie of the Year while finishing a solid fourth in the final point’s standings. In 14 starts he recorded four top five finishes with a season high of a third coming at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan back on May 12th. Overall, he also has six top 10 showings and one Fast Qualifier Award, which came at Flat Rock Speedway in Flat Rock, Michigan on September 8th.
