Walker, MI (March 12, 2013) – The 2013 racing season began for Hermiller at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia for the running of SpeedFest 2013 which was headlined by the 200-lap non-points main event for the ARCA/CRA Super Series. After starting 22nd, the now 20-year-old was involved in a crash on lap 136 and was shown 25th at the end of the race. Now a return trip to the deep south is up next and Hermiller has much higher expectations and is perhaps looking for a bit of redemption as well.
On Friday-Sunday, March 15-17th, Hermiller and the entire H.S. Die / VISI-TST Ford Racing Team will make the 15+ hour trek from Walker, Michigan down to the 37th annual Rattler 250 Weekend at the fast 4/10s (0.400) mile semi-banked paved oval of South Alabama Speedway, located north of the Alabama / Florida state line in Kinston (Opp), Alabama. Hermiller will race in the headlining 250-Lap main on St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday afternoon and hopes a little bit of luck will come his way in the main event.
I'm real excited about the Rattler! I think the car is where it needs to be to be fast. It’s nice to know the whole crew is excited too!” Remarked Hermiller, who will turn 20-years-old on March 16th during Qualifying day for the Rattler 250. “That's all we have been able to talk about at the shop is getting down to the rattler. We all think we should be good and be able to run up there with the fast guys.” He added.
“Our expectations for this race are at least a top five finish. I think it is definitely possible. I have a great crew, a great car I think we can definitely get a top five.” He continued. “I think this race will help for the rest of the season. It’s good to do these races down south before we start up here running stuff. It helps with figuring out all the bugs with the cars and gets them so there are no problems or anything in the races up here.” Hermiller explained.
For the remainder of the 2013 racing season, after the Rattler weekend, Hermiller and the H.S. Die / VISI TST Ford Racing Team will shift focus by competing primarily in the bigger shows within the ARCA/CRA Super Series as well as the ARCA Midwest Tour. He'll also race in select events in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour as well as at his home track of Berlin Raceway, located just 10 minutes from the Walker, Michigan race shop in Marne, Michigan in the tracks Coors Light Silver Bullet Super Late Models Series. “The plans for the remainder of the year are to just hit all the big races and race on some of the bigger tracks. We are jumping around quite a bit this year.” He ended.
The 2012 racing season saw Hermiller compete for the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance where he finished as the freshman runner-up in the Salem, Indiana based series to Anderson Bowen while also finishing ninth overall in the season long points chase. He grabbed three top 10 finishes, all of which were 10th place showings and those came at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana in May, also at Berlin in August and at Watermelon Capital Speedway last October.
Hermiller also made limited appearances within the ARCA/CRA Super Series as well as Berlin Raceway's Template Super Late Models Series now known as the Coors Light Silver Bullet Series where he recorded another 10th place finish back on June 9th at his home track.
